George Oldroyd, Scouting Hero (AlumniAlive, Summer 2018)

Mark Ray

Eagle Scout George Oldroyd was the youngest-serving Scoutmaster in America, and became the most-decorated Scout lifesaver in history. In 2016 he fought a roadside fire that threatened to touch off a propane explosion in front of a nursing home. He was gravely injured, losing a leg and nearly going blind. He was awarded the Honor Medal with Crossed Palms, his second Honor Medal, by the B.S.A. National Court of Honor. He willingly went to his death to enact his Scout Oath.
