He claimed it, and led his pack through the many hardships of a life in the wild, gained wisdom and carries the scars to this day. Then, a younger male threw him down and cast him out. Exiled, he wandered far, his mind lost in melancholy. He lived in solitude, hunting no more than necessary. A grizzly bear nearly became his doom. He slayed the bear and hid in the cave of his bane, licking wounds and waiting to die; a lion cannot live long without a pack. And he was old. However, humans had seen him slay the bear and now worshipped him. They left offerings by the mouth of the cave. He ate lamb and goat hunted by strangers, but he lived.
