My leadership journey has been shaped by listening, acting, and delivering tangible solutions to the challenges students face every day. During my time as a student leader, I led with vision and results, from reducing fee burdens and creating bursary funds to launching innovative programs like the first-ever Food Bank and Artiste Night. These experiences have strengthened my belief that private university students deserve more than promises, they deserve action, recognition, and opportunities. As a candidate for PUSAG President, my vision is to create a PUSAG that is visible, proactive, and transformative, one that addresses our real issues and elevates our collective voice. Vision Statement: “Affordable Education, Recognized Voices, United Students.” Mission Statement: “To lead PUSAG with courage, innovation, and integrity advocating for affordability, strengthening student welfare, expanding opportunities, and uniting private university students under one powerful voice.” CANDIDATE: Theresah Kwakyewah Baidoo (TKB) OFFICE SOUGHT: President, Private University Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG) PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT POLICY DOCUMENT 1 Results prove Kwakyewah’s leadership. As SRC President, she: Student Welfare & Support Established the first-ever Food Bank on campus to support needy students. Created a Bursary Fund to provide financial relief. Introduced Free Breakfast every morning to support student welfare. Advocated for the reinstatement of students who were unfairly dismissed. Financial Advocacy & Inclusion Successfully lobbied for the reduction in the fee payment policy from 50% to 30%, easing the burden on students. Facilitated the issuance of E-Switch and Visa cards for 400+ students. Campus Development & Facilities Lit up campus through a major lighting project for safety and comfort. Furnished the SRC Office, creating a functional space for student leadership. Visibility & National Recognition Secured media visibility on national platforms such as Onua TV, Homebase TV, MX24TV, Pan African TV, Metro TV, Truth TV, positioned the SRC and students as active stakeholders in national student conversations. TRACK RECORD OF LEADERSHIP 2 Student Engagement & Opportunities Hosted the first-ever Artiste Night, featuring top artistes and renowned dancers. Organized major campus programs that boosted student morale and campus life. Coordinated passport application services for students. Facilitated cloth production for student branding and unity. These achievements demonstrate her ability to turn ideas into impact a track record she is ready to extend to PUSAG. POLICY OUTLINE POLICY 1: STUDENT WELFARE & AFFORDABILITY (Expanded & Strengthened) Title: National Education Equality & Affordability Reform Code: SWAI–001 Key Solutions 1. Advocacy for Government-Supported PUSAG Bus System Many students struggle with transport to campus and back home. We will negotiate a Public–Private Transport Partnership (PPTP) with: Ministry of Education Ministry of Transport Metro Mass & Ayalolo Goal: Secure at least one subsidized bus per region for private universities within that region. 3 2. Quota for Private University Needy Students Under “No Fees for First-Year” Government Policy Since public university students now enjoy “No Fees for First-Year” , PUSAG under my leadership will push for: 30% quota allocation for needy private university students Selection through a decentralized, transparent PUSAG screening system Collaboration with GETFund & MoE This ensures private university students are not excluded from national benefit schemes. 3. Strengthened PUSAG Scholarship Scheme Alumni Trust Fund expansion Corporate partners (banks, telcos, NGOs) Student Loan Trust Fund inclusion for all PUSAG institutions Publication of annual beneficiaries list for transparency 4. Standardized Student Welfare Policy Across All Universities Including: Flexible fee payment structure Student emergency support fund Affordable hostel negotiations 3 POLICY 2: DIGITAL LEARNING & FREE ONLINE LIBRARY DEVELOPMENT Title: PUSAG Digital Learning & Knowledge Access Initiative Number: PDLK–002 We will build a PUSAG National Online Library with: Free e-books Past questions database Research tools Journals & open-access materials Academic writing resources Digital learning courses Partners: Ghana Library Authority African Journals Online (AJOL) Coursera for Campus UNESCO OER This policy provides equal access to learning materials for every student, regardless of school or financial status. 4 POLICY 3: INFRASTRUCTURE & LECTURER SUPPORT POLICY Title: Campus Development & Lecturer Empowerment Program Number: CDLE–003 Bursary for Private University Lecturers Private university lecturers contribute immensely to national education but lack government support. As President , I will negotiate for: A National Lecturer Support Bursary funded by GETFund & MoE Research grant support for private university lecturers Subsidized capacity-building training Inclusion in national teaching development programs POLICY 4: TRANSPORT & CAMPUS MOBILITY POLICY Title: Student Mobility & Access Enhancement Program Number: SMAE–004 Deliverables Regional student buses (NEW) Student transport discounts on intercity travel Shuttle partnerships with private operators Campus mobility support for persons with disabilities 5 This improves teaching quality AND indirectly benefits students. Student Infrastructure Advocacy Push for better lecture halls, labs, Wi-Fi Partnership with NGOs for water, sanitation & campus accessibility projects Strengthened PUSAG Games, Regional Cultural Festivals POLICY 5: CAREER DEVELOPMENT, EMPLOYABILITY & INNOVATION Title: PUSAG Career & Innovation Accelerator Number: PCIA–005 Reforms Annual National Career & Internship Fair Partnerships with companies for guaranteed internship slots Digital skills bootcamps (AI, data analysis, cybersecurity) Entrepreneurship fund competitions Student Leaders' Diplomacy Training (BIMUN Nigeria + ECOWAS Youth Summit) Student startup incubation support 5 POLICY 6: NATIONAL RECOGNITION, RIGHTS & ADVOCACY Title: One Voice, One Identity – Recognition & Advocacy Reform Number: PNRR–006 Action Points Charter of Student Rights & Responsibilities Quarterly meetings with National Education Stakeholders Nationwide Visibility Campaign for Private Universities Push for equal national service opportunities Fight for inclusion in national policy decisions CONCLUSION These revised policies directly resolve the biggest problems students face, transportation, learning resources, affordability, recognition, and welfare. As National President , I will not only advocate; I will negotiate, implement, and deliver.
