The exam consists of two stages - JEE Mains and Advanced. JEE Mains exam is a screening test for JEE Advanced and also acts as the gateway to prestigious engineering institutes across the country. Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the JEE Mains exam has been held in four phases in 2021. As compared to JEE Advanced exam, the level of difficulty is lower in the Mains exam. Negative marks may be awarded for some incorrect answers. Eligibility criteria for JEE A general category candidate must have secured at least 75% marks in Class XII exams with Maths, Physics and Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology as one of the subjects to be eligible for JEE Mains. SC/ST candidates need to secure 65% marks. Alternatively, a candidate should be in top 20 percentile of their respective boards. There is no age limit to appear for JEE Mains. A candidate can appear for three consecutive years from the year he appeared for Class XII exams. A candidate should make it to the list of top 2.5 lakh students including reserve category in JEE Mains to qualify for the JEE Advanced exam. A candidate can appear for the JEE Advanced exams for two consecutive years from the year he appeared for the class XII examination.
