Salesforce rates it Foundational and aims it at people with foundational Tableau Desktop skills and at least three months of applying them in the product. It sits below Data Analyst, Consultant and Architect, and it tests one product only: Tableau Desktop. Everything below comes from the Salesforce certificate page and the official exam guide. Certification Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations Exam code Analytics-101 Level Foundational Product version Currently testing on Tableau 2022.3 Question type Multiple choice and multiple select Number of questions 40, plus up to five unscored Time limit 70 minutes Passing score 48% for the English version; 55% for the Japanese version Registration fee USD 75 or JPY 10,000, plus applicable taxes Retake fee Free Languages English, Japanese, French, Spanish Delivery Proctored, onsite at a testing center or online Prerequisites None — stated as such in the Salesforce exam guide Maintenance No required maintenance at this time Sections Four, weighted 23 / 37 / 25 / 15, summing to 100 Three rows there change how you sit the paper. The questions are multiple choice and multiple select , so some stems want more than one answer. There are up to five unscored questions mixed in, which Salesforce says are randomly integrated and have no impact on the result: if an item looks unlike anything on the outline, answer it and move on. And the exam is currently testing on Tableau 2022.3 . If the copy you practise on is a newer release, anything that has moved since is still examined as it was in 2022.3. One sourcing note, because it matters when you compare guides. The Salesforce certificate page publishes the format, the fee and the languages but not the pass mark, the product version or the section weightings; those live in the exam guide. Any figure Salesforce does not publish is not in this guide at all. www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 3 SECTION 02 Why 48% Is Not a Gift The number everyone notices first is the pass mark: 48% for the English version. It reads like an exam you can pass by half knowing the product. Two other facts on the same page argue against relaxing. The Japanese version of the same exam needs 55% , so the bar is set per version rather than being a statement that the content is easy. And the retake is free , which changes the arithmetic of a failed attempt but not the hours you lose to it. What the blueprint says about where to spend time Exploring and Analyzing Data is 37% - the largest section by a clear margin. Add Sharing Insights at 25% and two sections carry 62% of the paper. Understanding Tableau Concepts is 15% and is the only section with no building. The four weightings sum to exactly 100, so nothing sits in an unlisted area. Time is the other constraint. Forty questions in 70 minutes is an average of one minute and 45 seconds each, before allowing for any unscored items that may be added. That is comfortable for a definition and tight for a scenario you have to read twice. The sample questions later in this guide are mostly scenarios, and Q3 is a multiple-select item with six options — the kind that eats the clock if you have not met the format before. SECTION 03 The Four Sections, Objective by Objective Salesforce publishes an exact percentage per section, so the chart below is the real blueprint rather than a proxy for one. The objectives listed under each section are the exam guide’s own, and the AnalyticsExam syllabus page carries the identical list. Salesforce adds one caveat worth repeating: the outline is not a comprehensive listing of the content on the examination. Connecting and preparing 23% Exploring and analyzing 37% Sharing insights 25% Tableau concepts 15% Published weightings from the Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations exam guide. The outline runs to 12 objective groups and 56 individual objectives, and the verbs tell you how each will be asked. Three sections are written in create, add, configure — things you do with the mouse. The fourth is written entirely in explain and describe . Revise the first three in Tableau Desktop and the fourth out loud. www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 4 1 Connecting to and Preparing Data — 23%, 13 objectives 1.1 Create live connections and extracts • Create a live connection to a data source • Explain the differences between using live connections versus extracts • Create an extract • Save metadata properties in a .TDS • Create a data source that uses multiple connections 1.2 Create and manage the data model • Add relationships to a data source • Add joins and unions • Explain when to use a join versus a relationship 1.3 Manage data properties • Rename a data field • Assign an alias to a data value • Assign a geographic role to a data field • Change data type for a data field (number, date, string, Boolean, etc.) • Change default properties for a data field (number format, aggregation, color, date format, etc.) 2 Exploring and Analyzing Data — 37%, 21 objectives 2.1 Create basic charts • Create a bar chart • Create a line chart • Create a scatterplot • Create a map using geographic data • Create a combined axis chart • Create a dual axis chart • Create a stacked bar • Create a density map • Create a chart to show specific values (crosstab, highlight table) 2.2 Organize data and apply filters • Create groups by using marks, headers, and the data pane • Create sets by using marks and the data pane • Organize dimensions into a hierarchy • Add a filter to a view • Add a date filter www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 5 2 Exploring and Analyzing Data — 37%, 21 objectives 2.3 Apply analytics to a worksheet • Add a manual or a computed sort • Add a reference line • Use a quick table calculation • Use bins and histograms • Create a calculated field (for example, string, date, simple arithmetic) • Explain when to use a parameter • Display totals on a worksheet 3 Sharing Insights — 25%, 14 objectives 3.1 Format view for presentation • Use color from the marks card • Configure fonts • Format marks as shapes • Configure viz animations • Change size of marks • Show and hide legends 3.2 Create and modify a dashboard • Add worksheets to a dashboard • Add interactive elements for consumers (for example, show filters, data highlighter, tooltips) • Add dashboard actions (for example, filter action, highlight action, parameter control, URL action) • Configure a dashboard layout and create device-specific dashboards • Create a story and a story point 3.3 View and share workbook data • Share a workbook (for example, twbx as a PDF or an image, publish to Tableau Server) • View and export underlying data • Export to Microsoft PowerPoint 4 Understanding Tableau Concepts — 15%, 8 objectives 4.1 Understand dimensions and measures • Explain what kind of information dimensions usually contain • Explain what kind of information measures usually contain • Explain the difference between dimensions and measures www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 6 4 Understanding Tableau Concepts — 15%, 8 objectives 4.2 Understand discrete and continuous fields • Explain how discrete fields are displayed • Explain how continuous fields are displayed • Explain the difference between discrete date parts and continuous date values 4.3 Understand aggregations • Explain the default aggregation for measures • Describe how an aggregated measure changes when dimensions are added to a view Notice what is not on the list. There is no Tableau Prep, no Level of Detail expression, and calculated fields stop at string, date and simple arithmetic. Table calculations appear only as the quick kind. Publishing is a single example inside one sharing objective. If a study resource is drilling you on LOD syntax or server permissions for this paper, it was written for a different exam. SECTION 04 What the Credential Is Worth Salesforce describes this credential as validating core Tableau knowledge for employees, partners, customers and freelancers who need to work with Tableau Desktop. That is a broad audience, and it is the point: this is a badge for people whose job uses Tableau, not only for people whose job title is analyst. It also carries no required maintenance at this time, so there is no renewal task waiting behind it. For the role most candidates are heading towards, pay is best read as a range rather than a single number: Built In’s 2026 data puts the US data analyst average base salary at USD 85,613 , with average additional cash compensation of USD 42,272, giving an average total of USD 127,885 — while the median of the same dataset sits at USD 79,000. Those are figures for the job, not for the certificate. A foundational badge does not move anyone between them by itself; what it does is turn "I have used Tableau" into something a recruiter can check. Where this certification actually helps It is the lowest-cost Tableau exam: USD 75 to register, and the retake is free. No prerequisite, and the target is three months of hands-on use. Offered in four languages: English, Japanese, French and Spanish. It covers Tableau Desktop only, so the scope is small enough to finish. The candidate it pays off fastest for is the person early in a data career, or moving into one from finance, marketing or operations, who needs a first credential that a hiring manager recognises. It is also the sensible rehearsal for the Data Analyst exam: the same product and the same style of question, at a lower fee and with a free second attempt. www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 7 SECTION 05 Getting Certified, Step by Step 1 Read the exam guide, not a summary It carries the pass mark, the version and the weightings the certificate page omits. 2 Build every chart on the list once Nine chart types are named under 2.1. Build each from a blank sheet, unprompted. 3 Assemble one dashboard and share it three ways Add actions and a device layout, then export as PDF, image and PowerPoint. 4 Say the concepts section out loud Dimension or measure, discrete or continuous, and what aggregation does. 15%. 5 Book the proctored exam 70 minutes, 40 questions, 48% to pass in English, USD 75. The retake is free. Steps two and three cover 62% of the paper between them, and neither can be done by reading. Salesforce itself recommends a combination of on-the-job experience and self-study, and names its free how-to training videos and the Desktop I: Fundamentals course as preparation. When you want to check whether the recognition has landed, AnalyticsExam’s Analytics-101 practice exam is built to this same blueprint, its Analytics-101 exam guide article walks through the exam in plain terms, and the Tableau community on Trailhead is where candidates compare notes. SECTION 06 Analytics-101 Sample Questions These ten come from AnalyticsExam’s Analytics-101 sample questions page, shown here in shuffled order. Every one is a named team with a task in front of it, so you are asked what to do rather than what a feature is called. Q3 wants three answers, not one. Q6 turns on the difference between hover, select and menu as dashboard-action triggers, Q1 on picking a chart for two measures, and Q9 on a default property that saves repeating the same change in every view. Answers follow the set. Q1. A marketing analytics team has ad spend and number of conversions recorded for each of 60 campaigns, and wants to see whether higher spend tends to coincide with more conversions. Which chart type is best suited to investigating this relationship between two measures? a) A crosstab, listing each campaign's spend and conversions as text b) A scatterplot, plotting ad spend on one axis and conversions on the other c) A line chart, connecting the campaigns in the order they were launched d) A stacked bar chart, breaking each campaign's conversions down by channel www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 8 Q2. A logistics analyst has a field named Delivery City and wants to plot delivery volume on a map, but when they drag the field onto the view, Tableau Desktop does not automatically recognize it as a location. What does the analyst need to configure on the field before it can be plotted on a map? a) Convert the field from a dimension to a measure b) Assign the field a geographic role, such as City c) Add the field to a hierarchy with a parent field d) Change the field's pill color from blue to green Q3. A financial analyst at a fintech company is preparing a new data source before building any worksheets. On the data source page, the analyst wants to adjust several field-level properties so calculations and visuals will be accurate later. Which of the following are data properties that can be configured for a field from the data source page? (Choose three.) a) Assigning a geographic role to a field containing postal codes so it can be used on a map. b) Adding a quick table calculation to a measure already placed in a completed view. c) Changing a field's data type, such as from string to date. d) Renaming a worksheet tab to something more descriptive. e) Creating a dashboard action that highlights marks across sheets when one is selected. f) Setting a field's default aggregation, such as switching from SUM to AVERAGE. Q4. Before an executive review, a pharmaceutical analyst needs a static set of slides that visually reproduce the clinical-trial enrollment dashboard exactly as it currently looks, for a presentation where Tableau itself will not be open. Which sharing action produces this kind of static, visual output? a) Create a quick table calculation b) Publish the workbook to Tableau Cloud c) Export data d) Export to PowerPoint Q5. A telecom analyst has one request from the data-science team, who want the exact churn figures behind a dashboard delivered as numbers they can load into their own modeling tool, and a second request from an executive who wants a slide deck visually reproducing the same dashboard for a board meeting where Tableau will not be available. Which pairing of sharing actions correctly satisfies both requests? a) Export to PowerPoint for both requests b) Export data for both requests c) Export to PowerPoint for the data-science team; export data for the executive d) Export data for the data-science team; export to PowerPoint for the executive www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 9 Q6. A manufacturing quality-control dashboard needs two distinct behaviors: (1) as a viewer moves the pointer across a defect-rate chart, related marks on a second worksheet should dim automatically for quick visual scanning, with no click required; (2) a deliberate right-click on a specific production line should offer a menu option to open a separate root-cause investigation dashboard for that line, so the jump never happens by accident. Which pairing of dashboard-action trigger types correctly satisfies both behaviors? a) Behavior 1 on menu; behavior 2 on select b) Behavior 1 on select; behavior 2 on hover c) Behavior 1 on hover; behavior 2 on menu d) Behavior 1 on menu; behavior 2 on hover Q7. A marketing analyst is preparing a campaign-performance view for a stakeholder presentation and wants to adjust its visual presentation without changing any underlying data or calculations. Which of the following is purely a formatting adjustment rather than a change to the data model? a) Changing the chart's font and color palette b) Adding a calculated field for cost per lead c) Converting a joined table to a relationship d) Changing a field's default aggregation Q8. An airline operations dashboard shows on-time performance by route on one worksheet and by aircraft type on another. When a viewer simply moves the pointer over a route without clicking, the marks representing that same route dim on the aircraft-type worksheet while the rest stay visible but muted, with no data actually removed from either view. Which configuration is responsible for this behavior? a) A reference line on the route worksheet b) A parameter control bound to route c) A filter action run on select d) A highlight action run on hover Q9. A nonprofit's fundraising dashboard in Tableau Desktop currently sums every donation whenever the Donation Amount field is dropped into a view. The development director instead wants every new view to show the average donation amount by default, without having to manually change the aggregation each time. What should the analyst change to achieve this? a) The field's default aggregation, from SUM to AVERAGE. b) The field's alias. c) The field's data type, from a measure to a dimension. d) The field's geographic role. www.analyticsexam.com Salesforce • Analytics-101 Salesforce Certified Tableau Desktop Foundations (Analytics-101) 10 Q10. An e-commerce team wants a single chart showing total monthly orders, with each month's bar broken down to show how many orders came from each of four product categories. Which chart type directly shows both the monthly total and its breakdown by category in one view? a) A density map, showing where order concentrations are highest b) A dual-axis chart, plotting order count and category count on separate axes c) A stacked bar chart, segmenting each month's bar by product category d) A scatterplot, plotting order count against product category Answer key Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Q5 Q6 Q7 Q8 Q9 Q10 b b a, c, f d d c a d a c One question in this free set is multiple-select and nine are single-answer. Look at what the set leans on, too: data properties, dashboard actions and export options each appear more than once, and all three are named objectives on the outline. SECTION 07 Where to Go Next One caution about study material. Salesforce now runs the Tableau exams inside its own certification programme under codes such as Analytics-101, and older preparation material for the entry-level Tableau exam still circulates under the Tableau Desktop Specialist name. Much of the content carries over, but check any pass mark, fee or weighting against the current guide before you trust it. Work from the Salesforce exam guide for the outline and the pass mark, the certificate page for scheduling and fees, and keep the rest of the Salesforce catalogue in view on the AnalyticsExam Salesforce list.
