Michael Stuart (he/him) Our Room Chair Overview Our Room Manchester exists to support male, trans and non - binary people who sex work. Our work combines professional advice, support and advocacy (supporting vulnerable and marginalised people address crisis) with arts - based engagement, empowering participants through imagination creativity and connection. We are the only organisation in the UK whose core remit is supporting male, trans and non - binary sex workers. We have supported this hidden and vulnerable community in Manchester for over 19 years. Alongside our participants we have developed the knowledge and understanding necessary to support and advocate for our community. We have an unrivalled expertise and insight across the full range of complex support needs our participants’ experience. Our support is not limited to specific issues, we have developed the knowledge and relationships necessary to successfully su ppo rt our participants to access help for almost any need they present with. We have the professional skills, knowledge, expertise and experience to deliver this work. Our project is community based and long - term, we estimate that 70% of people who engage with us will need in excess of 5 years intensive support. In addition to frontline delivery, we have developed strong strategic connections, helping to shape the services our particip ant s rely on. We have established formal partnerships with Manchester City Council (MCC) as members of Manchester’s Sex Work Forum and the MCCs Homelessness Strategic Advisory Board, we also sit on the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Leaders Group. Our approach explicitly acknowledges our participants as experts in their own experience. Our planning and evaluation process es imbed participant voice. Our recruitment processes actively encourage applications from people with lived experience. It is important to us all that ‘ we see ourselves in the room’ as we know the difference this can make.
