The Boy and The Demon Qardaishan Folk Tale Long ago, before the creation of Orzan Bey’s State, there was a village on the great plains. The plains were lush green and vast, as big as the ocean nearby. These village people rode great horses which carried them from place to place. But this specific small village only farmed and relied heavily on seeds to feed the population. One night, whilst the villagers were asleep, a demon swooped in and stole all of the village’s seeds! When the villagers awoke they were saddened, how could they feed themselves now? Suddenly, a boy arose atop the village and started announcing. “Don’t worry my people, I will fight that demon and save our seeds!” He proclaimed. The Villagers laughed at them. How could such a puny little boy fight such a great demon? “Just you wait!” Said the boy. “I will save us!” he exclaimed one more time before heading out to face the demon. The demon was a well-known demon in the area, living atop a jagged mountain of a thousand steps! The boy stood at the base of the mountain. He thought about heading back to the village in defeat. He could hear snickering and laughing from atop the tall mountain. The boy took a deep breath, don’t be scared, I have god protecting me. He thought to himself. The boy began the grueling journey of climbing the mountain. He saw many things, spiders the size of horses, roaches big enough to eat you, and rats as big as the biggest dogs. Halfway through the climb, the boy heard howling and barking. A pack of wolves came to attack him! He ran as fast as he could, he thought of running back down but he continued up the steps while the wolves were on his back, eventually, he outran the wolves and reached the top of the mountain. There he saw the multi-headed red demon. He took a deep breath. “Hey, you!” the boy said in a frightened voice to the demon. The demon looked at him and in a terrifying voice asked, “Who are you? What do you want?” The boy gulped. He drew out a small dagger from his pocket. “Give back my village's seeds or I will slay you!” the boy exclaimed. The demon laughed and laughed. “You think you can slay me?” The demon asked mockingly, still teared up from his laughter. The boy looked at the demon with fear, and took a deep breath, reminding himself that God was with him. In a stern voice, he said yes to the demon. The Demon laughed and laughed that's when the boy lunged forward with his dagger and sliced the belly of the demon. The demon gasped for air and collapsed on his back. In his stomach were the seeds that the boy’s village needed. The boy went back to his village with the seeds and the village broke into cheer celebrating. How could this little boy defeat a demon and save his village? Simply, he was the only one brave enough to stand up. The End.
