The classes will be short, (under an hour), and you do not have to attend all of them to learn something! Click on the calendar picture above to see what ’ s happening at CUMC! Adult bible study has resumed! It happens Sundays, at 9am in the Fireside Room. If you would like to participate by giving through the church, you may do so through the church website here: Our mission focus for the month of November is the Adult & Teen Challenge Program in Shedd, Oregon. The men will be in worship with us the week before Christmas (Dec. 18th) This month we will be collecting supplies for the program in the foyer. Suggested supplies are pens, pencils, paper, toothbrushes, T - Shirts, boxers, and liquid hand soap. It was February 28, 1958 when the 26 - year - old David Wilkerson, a country preacher from rural Pennsylvania, disrupted a highly publicized murder trial in New York City. Wilkerson ’ s obedience to his calling would lead to the opening of the first Teen Challenge center in Brooklyn, NY in 1960. Teen Challenge has grown to nearly 250 centers in 48 states and over 1,000 centers in 95 countries. In 1983, Mike Hodges answered his own call to form Teen Challenge of Oregon, which has expanded to 25 ministry and business locations across five states, and now operates as Adult & Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest. Our Willamette Valley Campus is located on 17 acres in the peaceful countryside of rural Linn County just 8 miles south of Albany, Oregon. Willamette Valley Campus is a faith - based long - term recovery program helping put hope within reach of those who struggle with life controlling issues such as drugs or alcohol addiction. We have the capacity to pour into the lives of 48 men at a time. Wilson Noah November 04 Leathrum Roland November 24 Let us know if there is a November birthday We don’t have on our list! We have added several programs just in the last few months, but that doesn ’ t stop the fact that Advent looms on the horizon. I have been excited to watch the development of the Community Meal, Prayer and Praise Service and the Confirmation Classes. The first Sunday in Advent is now less than 2 weeks away. It is time to start thinking about Hanging of the Greens (decorating the church), Advent Wreath lightings, and a Christmas Eve Candlelight service. I have heard from a few of you about being willing to participate in readings, but it is time for the musicians to decide what contributions they will be able to make to the service. I would like to do a regular lessons and carols service. We will alternate the traditional bible readings with inspiring Christmas songs and carols. If you plan on taking part in the Christmas Eve service by playing or singing, you MUST let me know what you want to do! I will begin writing out the order of worship in a week. Please send me an email if you are willing to either read scripture or sing. We hope to have a few different groups making musical contributions as well as solo performances. Questions? Contact Joan Extrom. We are highlighting our Adult & Teen Challenge sponsored students weekly so we can encourage the membership to send them notes of support. The students take part in a 12 - month residential program, and there are separate campuses for men and women. We invite you to send this week ’ s student a card of encouragement. Be sure and tell them you are a member of the College United Methodist Church, and that our church continues to pray for their progress and success! Izzy M. c/o Adult and Teen Challenge Program 85989 Bailey Hill Rd. Eugene, OR 97405 We hope that you will be willing to pick one of the four students we sponsor and send them a card or letter of encouragement. If you do not want to stick to one student, you are welcome to write or send a card to our student of the week. You can make a financial contribution to our sponsorship fund by mail, in person, or online. But just as important is regular communication from the sponsors. Many of our students no longer have the family structural support, and your participation might be just the lifeline they are waiting for. You can just send a card with your name or a very short note. It is not necessary to write them a long letter. Just let them know you thought of them and are praying for them.
