Textiles, textile production and clothing were essentials of living in prehistory, locked into the system of society at every level – social, economic and even religious. Textile crafts not only produced essential goods for everyday use, most notably clothing, but also utilitarian objects as well as representative and luxury items.Prehistoric clothing and their role in identity creation for the individual and for the group are also addressed by means of archaeological finds from Stone the Iron Age in Central Europe.Textilien, Textilhandwerk und Kleidung bilden wichtige Lebensgrundlagen des urgeschichtlichen Menschen, mit Auswirkungen auf viele Aspekte des Lebens, seien es soziale, wirtschaftliche oder religiöse. Mit diesem Handwerk wurden nicht nur wesentliche Güter des täglichen Bedarfs - allen voran Kleidung - hergestellt, sondern auch Gebrauchswaren sowie repräsentative Objekte bis hin zu Luxusartikeln.Urgeschichtliche Kleidung und ihre Rolle als Identitätsmarker für die einzelnen Menschen, wie auch für Gruppen, werden mittels archäologischer Funde aus der Stein- bis Eisenzeit Mitteleuropas behandelt.

This book presents collective works published in the recent Special Issue (SI) entitled "Multivariate Approximation for Solving ODE and PDE". These papers describe the different approaches and related objectives in the field of multivariate approximation. The articles in fact present specific contents of numerical methods for the analysis of the approximation, as well as the study of ordinary differential equations (for example oscillating with delay) or that of partial differential equations of the fractional order, but all linked by the objective to present analytical or numerical techniques for the simplification of the study of problems involving relationships that are not immediately computable, thus allowing to establish a connection between different fields of mathematical analysis and numerical analysis through different points of view and investigation. The present contents, therefore, describe the multivariate approximation theory, which is today an increasingly active research area that deals with a multitude of problems in a wide field of research. This book brings together a collection of inter-/multi-disciplinary works applied to many areas of applied mathematics in a coherent manner.

William Morris (1834-1896) was an English artist, writer, socialist and activist. He was one of the principal founders of the British arts and crafts movement, best known as a designer of wallpaper and patterned fabrics, a writer of poetry and fiction and a pioneer of the socialist movement in Britain. Morris and his friends formed an artistic movement, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. They eschewed the tawdry industrial manufacture of decorative arts and architecture and favoured a return to hand-craftsmanship, raising artisans to the status of artists. He espoused the philosophy that art should be affordable, hand-made, and that there should be no hierarchy of artistic mediums. His best-known works are The Defence of Guinevere, and Other Poems (1858), Hopes and Fears for Art (1882), Chants for Socialists (1885), A Dream of John Ball: A King's Lesson (1888), The House of the Wolfings (1889), Child Christopher and Goldilind the Fair (1895), Old French Romances (1896), The Well at the World's End (1896), and The Hollow Land (1897).

Es ist das Anliegen der vorliegenden Arbeit, die Vorstellungswelt, die mittels des russischen Frauenromans transportiert, affirmiert oder überhaupt erst geschaffen wurde, zu erhellen. Dies geschieht über relativ detaillierte Analysen einzelner Romane, in denen versucht wird, die inhaltlichen Motive, Strukturelemente und sprachlichen Klischees herauszuarbeiten und zu vergleichen. Da die in der Arbeit vorgestellten Autorinnen meist unbekannt sind, wird versucht, in kurzen Abschnitten einen Einblick in das Leben und Schaffen der Autorinnen zu geben.

With this rich anthology of sources, most of which are made available here for the first time, Michele Mancino and Giovanni Romeo add another element to the research project that began with their recent book (Clero criminale. L’onore della Chiesa e i delitti degli ecclesiastici nell’Italia della Controriforma, Laterza, Roma-Bari, 2013, 4th ed.). The two parts document from a range of perspectives the way in which the Tridentine project of combating the common crimes of the clergy was undone before the end of the sixteenth century. Instead, the Roman curia was mainly concerned with enforcing the right of delinquent priests to be judged only by ecclesiastical tribunals, a strategy intended to defend the honor of the clergy that was followed persistently over the long term. The material presented here describes a previously unknown historical precedent for the recent revelations about the treatment of pedophile priests.

Die beschriebene Darstellung wird nach den Grundaspekten des lautsprachlichen Kommunikationsvorgangs vorgenommen: nach dem physiologisch-genetischen, nach dem akustisch-perzeptiven und dem phonologischen.

Magazines, Tourism, and Nation-Building in Mexico is an important and timely publication that will appeal to readers from across disciplinary fields.” —María del Pilar Blanco, Associate Professor, Spanish American Literature, University of Oxford, UK This open access book discusses the relationship between periodicals, tourism, and nation-building in Mexico. It enquires into how magazines, a staple form of the promotional apparatus of tourism since its inception, articulated an imaginative geography of Mexico at a time when that industry became a critical means of economic recovery and political stability after the Revolution. Notwithstanding their vogue, popularity, reach, and close affiliations to commerce and state over several decades, magazines have not received any sustained critical attention in the scholarship on that period. This book aims to redress that oversight. It argues that illustrated magazines like Mexican Folkways (1925–1937) and Mexico This Month (1955–1971) offer rich and compelling materials in that regard, not only as unique tools for interrogating the ramifications of tourism on the country’s reconstruction, but as autonomous objects of study that form a vital if complex part of Mexico’s visual culture. Claire Lindsay is Reader in Latin American Literature and Culture at University College London, UK. She is the author of Locating Latin American Women Writers and Contemporary Travel Writing of Latin America.
