Micro-power domestic organic Rankine cycle (ORC) systems and the selection of the expander and the working fluid are presented, analyzed thoroughly, and numerically evaluated. A promising decentralized hybrid PV-SOFC system is investigated for providing useful energy supply to commercial buildings, capable of power and heat generation at a lower cost. A hybrid solar-combined cycle power plant integrated with a packed-bed thermal energy storage system with a novel recycling configuration enables robust control of collector temperature and net power during times of high solar activity. An automated hybrid (solar and biomass) power plant for thermal energy production for indoor space heating loads coverage is presented. A comprehensive and up-to-date literature review is presented of non-iterative methods for the extraction of the single diode model parameters of photovoltaic modules. A prototype custom built two-speed gearbox with a single stage transmission electric vehicle achieves significant reductions in the overall energy consumption. Two new fuzzy models are presented of high concentrator photovoltaics using the high-accuracy Takagi–Sugeno–Kang approach and the ease of interpreting the Mamdani linguistic rules. Finally, the impact of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in the primary frequency regulation is studied and the effects of PHEVs in non-interconnected isolated power systems with significant renewable energy source (RES) penetration are demonstrated through simulations of the isolated power system of Cyprus Island.

There are many reasons why you would want to read this book. One of the questions many people raise is, “why go through all the hassle of manually building a Linux system from scratch when you can just download and install an existing one?” One important reason for this project's existence is to help you learn how a Linux system works from the inside out. Building an LFS system helps demonstrate what makes Linux tick, and how things work together and depend on each other. One of the best things that this learning experience can provide is the ability to customize a Linux system to suit your own unique needs. Another key benefit of LFS is that it allows you to have more control over the system without relying on someone else's Linux implementation. With LFS, you are in the driver's seat and dictate every aspect of the system. LFS allows you to create very compact Linux systems. When installing regular distributions, you are often forced to install a great many programs which are probably never used or understood. These programs waste resources. You may argue that with today's hard drive and CPUs, such resources are no longer a consideration. Sometimes, however, you are still constrained by size considerations if nothing else. Think about bootable CDs, USB sticks, and embedded systems. Those are areas where LFS can be beneficial. Another advantage of a custom built Linux system is security. By compiling the entire system from source code, you are empowered to audit everything and apply all the security patches desired. It is no longer necessary to wait for somebody else to compile binary packages that fix a security hole. Unless you examine the patch and implement it yourself, you have no guarantee that the new binary package was built correctly and adequately fixes the problem. The goal of Linux From Scratch is to build a complete and usable foundation-level system. If you do not wish to build your own Linux system from scratch, you may not entirely benefit from the information in this book. There are too many other good reasons to build your own LFS system to list them all here. In the end, education is by far the most powerful of reasons. After publishing A Grammar of the Bedouin Dialects of the Northern Sinai Littoral: Bridging the Linguistic Gap between the Eastern and Western Arab World (Brill:2000), Rudolf de Jong completes his description of the Bedouin dialects of the Sinai Desert of Egypt by adding the present volume. To facilitate direct comparison of all Sinai dialects, the dialect descriptions in both volumes run parallel and are thus structured in the same manner. Quoting from his own extensive material and using a total of 95 criteria for comparison, De Jong applies the method of 'multi-dimensional scaling' and his own 'step-method' to arrive at a subdivision into eight (of which seven are 'Bedouin') typological groups in Sinai. An appendix with 68 maps and dialectrometrical plots completes the picture.

After-school programs, music lessons, Scouts, summer camps, on-the-job training, and home activities all offer out-of-school educational experiences. In Learning at Not-School, Julian Sefton-Green explores studies and scholarly research on out-of-school learning, investigating just what it is that is distinctive about the quality of learning in these “not-school” settings.Sefton-Green focuses on those organizations and institutions that have developed parallel to public schooling and have emerged as complements, supplements, or attempts to remediate the alleged failures of schools. He reviews salient principles, landmark studies, and theoretical approaches to learning in not-school environments, reporting on the latest scholarship in the field. The Tyrolean knight Oswald von Wolkenstein (ca 1376 - 1445) is considered to be the most important German poet and composer of the Late Middle Ages. Besides his songs and compositions more than 1000 documents bear evidence of his chivalrous career and the medieval life of the lower nobility in all its social, economic and legal details. This exceptional historical attestation came down to us in ca 40 archives spread all over Austria, Italy, Germany and neighbouring countries. Partly known and with exceptions not published before this five volume edition presents the material in a totally new edition following the rules of historic-diplomatic editions, based on new transcriptions and accompanied by source descriptions as well as ample commentaries. Volume IV comprises the years 1438 to 1442, a period that shows how Wolkenstein is establishing himself as a leading member oft Tyrolean nobility, renown as legal adviser as well as a land-owner involved in arguments.Der Tiroler Adelige Oswald von Wolkenstein (um 1376 - 1445) gilt als einzigartiger Exponent der spätmittelalterlichen deutschen Lyrik. Vor dem Hintergrund der in den neunziger Jahren verschärften Diskussion um den Standort Deutschland werden in Wissenschaft und Praxis diverse Reformvorschläge zur Weiterentwicklung der Regionalpolitik erörtert. Diese lassen jedoch allzu oft eine hinreichende ökonomische Fundierung vermissen. Deshalb stellt sich der Autor die Aufgabe, die diversen Reformvorstellungen aufzugreifen und zu einer theoretisch fundierten Konzeption zusammenzuführen. Seine Argumentation ist dabei von einem zentralen Grundgedanken durchzogen. Da die Regionalpolitik der Zukunft auch ökologische, soziale, kulturelle und allgemein-politische Aspekte umfassen muß, sind zwei Zielrichtungen erkennbar: Sie muß die Koordination bzw. Integration raumrelevanter Politikbereiche vollziehen, und sie muß dezentralisiert werden im Sinne einer Regionalpolitik der Regionen. So wird plädiert für die Institutionalisierung von regionalen Netzwerken und Public Private Partnerships.

Die Darstellung der Institution »ältere Privatdozentur« im ersten Teil wird im zweiten Band durch biographische Skizzen von 32 Privatdozenten des Sommersemesters 1812 ergänzt. Sie verdeutlichen, dass die Privatdozentur nur für wenige eine Pflanzschule künftiger Professoren war, als die sie der Göttinger Orientalist Michaelis 1773 bezeichnete - nur sechs Privatdozenten erreichten eine Professur. Der Regelfall war ein nicht habilitierter Privatlehrer ohne Berufungsaussicht, der mit seinem Zweitberuf den gehaltlosen Privatdozenten in sich ernährte. Das Karrierespektrum in der gewählten Stichprobe ist weit gefächert: es reicht von dem bedeutenden Arabistikprofessor G. W. Freytag an der Universität Bonn bis zum örtlichen Notar J. G. Quentin, der am Rande des akademischen Proletariats stand, bis hin zu dem jung dahingegangenen Autor Ernst Schulze, der für Cäcilie Tychsen einfühlsame Poesie schrieb und posthum zu einem Lieblingsdichter seiner Zeit wurde. Die Stichprobe schließt den Friseurgesellen Ch. Focke ein, der sich zum Mathematikdozenten aufschwang, sowie den Musicus J. N. Forkel, einen Mitbegründer der Musikwissenschaft. Die Arbeit beruht vor allem auf den Akten des Universitätsarchivs und führt daher viele Aspekte des alltäglichen Mit- und Gegeneinanders an der Georgia Augusta auf, die im ausführlichen Personen- und Sachregister aufgeführt sind. Abgerundet werden die Einsichten in den akademischen Alltag durch den Blick auf andere Universitäten: von Salamanca, zu dessen Promotionsbräuchen auch der Stierkampf gehörte, bis hin zur Erfurter Universität, an der man eine Promotion kaufen konnte und darüber hinaus auf W. von Humboldts Neugründung, die sich 1810 am östlichen Horizont zeigte.
