Owners impose usage restrictions on their information, which can be based e.g. on privacy laws, copyright law or social conventions. Often, information is processed in complex constellations without central control. In this work, we introduce technologies to formally express usage restrictions in a machine-interpretable way as so-called policies that enable the creation of decentralised systems that provide, consume and process distributed information in compliance with their usage restrictions.

Im Zuge der wirtschaftlichen Globalisierung hat sich die Nachfrage nach Leistungen des Luftverkehrs in den vergangenen Jahren hochdynamisch entwickelt. Es ist zu erwarten, daß sich dieser Trend auch weiter fortsetzt. Daraus resultiert die gesellschaftlich kontrovers diskutierte Forderung nach einer Erhöhung des Angebots an Luftverkehrsleistungen. Es stellt sich die Frage, welche ökonomischen Effekte ausgehend von Flughäfen für die Gesamt- und Regionalwirtschaft entstehen und wie diese gemessen werden können. Es wird ein umfassender ökonomischer Bewertungsansatz diskutiert. Dieser beinhaltet unterschiedliche volkswirtschaftliche Nutzen- sowie Kostenkategorien, wie z.B. Beschäftigungseffekte und Lärmbelastung. In einem empirischen Teil werden ökonomische Wirkungen auf die Region für den Flughafen München untersucht.

Even though initially considered as a passive means for storing energy, lipids are now regarded as multifaceted molecules with crucial structural and functional activities. For instance, some of them play essential roles as key components of cell membranes whereas others act as signaling molecules in the regulation of cell homeostasis. In recent years, lipid research has attracted increasing interest because of the involvement of this class of compounds in human health. Indeed, a plethora of pathological conditions are characterized by alterations in lipid metabolism, such as cardiovascular diseases and brain disorders. This Special Issue is a collection of papers from different experts in lipid research, with the aim of providing new insights into the physiopathological involvement of lipids and their impact on human health. This collection also demonstrates the usefulness of interdisciplinary approaches in the development of novel methods to study and manipulate lipid metabolism, which may represent an attractive target for designing effective therapeutic strategies to counteract numerous pathologies.

The German Copyright Law grants an absolute right to authors, i.e., any use of protected works requires the author's prior consent. This concept is known as opt-in. In this doctoral thesis the author examines five models which turn this concept upside down as they provide for the permission for certain beneficiaries to use protected works without the author's prior consent until the author objects to such use. This concept is known as opt-out. Also, the examined models contain elements of collectivization and, in particular, involve collecting societies. The author examines and compares these models and answers the question whether the underlying opt-out concept together with collectivization may be generalized so that it could replace opt-in.Das Urheberrecht ist als absolutes Ausschließlichkeitsrecht ausgestaltet, d. h. für jede rechtmäßige Nutzung durch Dritte ist die Zustimmung des Urhebers notwendig. In this qualitative study, familial mediation and appropriation processes are examined in a three-generation perspective, taking into account the in-family development of social development processes in two neighboring subregions. Attention is given not only to the continuity, but also to the adaptations and changes of the forms and content of family traditioning. The linking of a generational perspective with Halbwachs' considerations of collective memory opens up several comparison options. In addition to capturing familial, generational and regional similarities and differences, the dynamics of familial tradition can be worked out in this way.Die Frage, welche Inhalte in welcher Form im Generationenverlauf innerfamilial tradiert werden, stellt ein periodisch wiederkehrendes und öffentlich verhandeltes Diskussionsthema dar. In dieser qualitativ angelegten Studie werden familiale Vermittlungs- und Aneignungsprozesse in einer Drei-Generationen-Perspektive unter Berücksichtigung der innerfamilialen Bearbeitung gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungsprozesse in zwei benachbarten Teilregionen untersucht. Hierbei gilt die Aufmerksamkeit nicht nur den Kontinuitäten, sondern auch den Anpassungen und Veränderungen von Formen und Inhalten familialer Tradierung. Die Verknüpfung einer generationellen Perspektive mit Halbwachs’ Überlegungen zum kollektiven Gedächtnis eröffnet dabei mehrere Vergleichsoptionen. Neben der Erfassung familialer, generationeller und regionaler Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede können auf diese Weise die Dynamiken familialer Tradierung herausgearbeitet werden.

India and the Patent Wars examines struggles over patents and access to medicine among pharmaceutical producers, activists and others under a new global intellectual property regime. In the past two decades, intellectual property rights have expanded throughout the globe creating a world in which protections for patents and copyrights have increased and a growing range of knowledge and practices are claimed as property. Driving these changes are U.S. court decisions, the policies of multinational corporations, and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Resistance to this regime has emerged in low-income countries among public health activists concerned about the rising cost of medicines for HIV/AIDS and indigenous peoples who now see their knowledge as vulnerable and pursue ownership claims for their medical and cultural practices.
