Natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) are pharmaceutically accepted systems not only because they typically offer a serious enhancement of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) solubility, but also due to their non-toxicity. This fortunate conjuncture allows for designing new media for escalation and controlled release of APIs. For example, composition optimisation of a series of NADES comprising choline chloride with multi-hydroxyl compounds was successfully performed for a set of sulphonamide-based drugs. These results confirmed that NADES in general, and the ones based on choline chloride and glycerol particularly, are an attractive alternative to traditional solvents for sulphonamide dissolution. Experiments augmented with in silico modelling can offer deeper insights into the thermodynamic characteristics of these systems and an explanation for the origin of the observed solubility enhancement. Research of this type offers universal resolutions to the problem of low solubility issues for many types of drugs. Of particular interest is that such screening is not restricted to artificial in vitro environments but can be also easily adopted for the study of modelled in vivo situations. One of very important and interesting examples is a new curcumin–NADES formulation preserving its beneficial properties even after dilution with FaSSIF solution, which mimicks intestinal absorption.

Wie reagieren Kommunen auf steigende Sozialhilfekosten? Am Beispiel der neun badenwürttembergischen Stadtkreise werden die sozialpolitischen Reaktionen - Zuschußkürzungen und Kostenverlagerungen - im Zeitraum 1980 bis 1992 untersucht. Einen weiteren Schwerpunkt bildet die Analyse finanzpolitischer kommunaler Reaktionen auf «fiscal stress» durch Sozialhilfekostenzuwächse und Einnahmenausfälle. Dabei wird insbesondere das «Cutback Management» der Städte Freiburg, Mannheim und Stuttgart betrachtet. Es zeigt sich, daß die «Flucht aus dem Haushalt» eine wichtige Anpassungsreaktion darstellt. Die Daten für die empirischen Untersuchungen wurden vor Ort erhoben und durch Informationen aus über hundert Interviews im sozialen, administrativen und politischen Bereich ergänzt.

In this new Brookings Marshall Paper, Michael O’Hanlon argues that now is the time for Western nations to negotiate a new security architecture for neutral countries in eastern Europe to stabilize the region and reduce the risks of war with Russia. He believes NATO expansion has gone far enough. The core concept of this new security architecture would be one of permanent neutrality. The countries in question collectively make a broken-up arc, from Europe’s far north to its south: Finland and Sweden; Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus; Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan; and finally Cyprus plus Serbia, as well as possibly several other Balkan states. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt den zweiten Teil der Untersuchung über slavisches Lehngut im Albanischen (SB 350) dar und beschäftigt sich mit den slavischen Ortsnamen Albaniens. Im Mittelpunkt dieses Teils stehen die slavischen Ortsnamen: Städtenamen, Gebietsnamen und Dörfernamen Albaniens, die unter verschiedenen Aspekten betrachtet werden. Zunächst wird das Inventar und die geographische Verbreitung für jeden Bezirk Albaniens festgestellt, und dann werden die Bildungstypen, die onymischen Inhalte und die ältesten Ortsnamen in ihrer jeweiligen geographischen Verbreitung dargestellt. Auf der Grundlage dieser Arbeit, des bereits veröffentlichten Bandes über die Lehnwörter und des geplanten Bandes über die Gewässer- und Flurnamen Albaniens soll eine Rekonstruktion der historischen Beziehungen zwischen Albanern und Südslaven erleichtert werden.
