Hilma af Klint was born in 1862 into a Swedish naval family, a child of mathematical precision and scientific curiosity. She was one of the first women to be admitted to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where she excelled in portraiture and botanical illustration. On the surface, she was a conventional, academically trained artist. Beneath it, she was something far more radical: a medium, a spiritualist, a woman who believed that she could communicate with higher intelligences thro
