The Maloolys have owned this property since 1977. Our family spent many happy weekends in Wrightwood, often sharing our cabin with good friends and extended family members and creating cherished memories. We have invested some time and effort into making thoughtful changes and updates to our cabin, hoping to create an environment where you can make your own memories, and where we are continuing to make new memories with the next generation of our family. Nexgrill 4-Burner Propane Gas Grill Fire up dinner on the deck! Here's how to get the grill going safely. 1. Make sure the propane tank valve is fully closed, and all burner control knobs on the grill are turned to OFF. 2. Open the grill lid - always light the grill with the lid open. 3. Slowly open the propane tank valve (turn counter-clockwise) until you hear gas begin to flow. 4. Turn one burner knob to the HIGH / IGNITE position and press the electronic igniter button a few times (3-5 seconds of holding) until that burner lights. 5. Once the first burner is lit, turn on and light any additional burners you'd like to use. 6. Adjust each knob to your desired heat once burners are lit, and close the lid to preheat. 7. When you're finished cooking, turn off the burner knobs first, then close the propane tank valve. Good to Know If a burner doesn't light within a few tries, turn all knobs off, wait 5 minutes for gas to clear, and start again from step 1. Never leave a lit grill unattended, and keep it well away from railings, walls, or overhanging branches. Wrightwood, California Page 5 THE OWL'S NEST CONTENTS 2. Outdoor Propane Fire Pit The 45" rectangular fire pit with the glass wind guard is the perfect spot for evening s'mores and stargazing. 1. Remove the lid/cover from the fire pit and set it aside. 2. Check that the faux fire coals are spread evenly across the burners - this helps the flame distribute nicely. 3. Turn on the propane supply at the tank (usually tucked inside the base cabinet). 4. Push and hold the ignition button (or carefully use a long lighter/match at the burner) while turning the control knob to the ON/light position. 5. Once lit, adjust the control knob to set your desired flame height. 6. Place the glass wind guard around the flame to help it burn steady on breezy Wrightwood evenings. 7. When you're done for the night, turn the control knob to OFF, then shut off the propane tank valve. Let the unit cool completely before replacing the lid. Good to Know Keep the fire pit at least several feet from furniture, railings, and anything flammable. Never leave the fire pit burning unattended, and keep an eye on little ones and pets nearby. Load clothes, then add detergent to the dispenser drawer (or directly in the drum, depending on the detergent pod/liquid you're using). 2. Select your wash cycle and temperature using the dial/buttons on the control panel. 3. Press and hold Start. The display will show the remaining time. Dryer 1. Before each load, clean out the lint trap - it's located just inside the dryer door. 2. Load clothes, select your dry cycle (Normal works well for most loads), and adjust dryness level or time if needed. 3. Press Start. Good to Know A clean lint trap makes a big difference in dry time - and it's a fire-safety must. Please don't leave the washer or dryer running when you leave the property. Maytag Oven with Built-In Air Fryer This oven does double duty - traditional baking and roasting, plus a built-in air fry setting for crispy favorites without the extra appliance. Baking / Roasting 1. Press the Bake (or Convection Bake) button on the control panel. 2. Use the dial or keypad to set your temperature, then press Start. Allow the oven to preheat before adding food. Air Fry Setting 1. Press the Air Fry button on the control panel. 2. Set the temperature and time (check your recipe or the food's packaging for guidance). 3. Use the oven's air fry basket or a perforated tray set on top of a regular sheet pan, so air can circulate underneath your food. 4. Press Start - no lengthy preheat needed for most air fry recipes. 5. For best results, shake or flip food halfway through cooking. Good to Know Oven mitts are in the drawer with the dish towels by the refrigerator - the air fry basket gets hot! Wrightwood, California Page 8 THE OWL'S NEST CONTENTS 5. Living Room Fireplace Nothing says mountain cabin like a crackling fire. Here's how to light ours: 1. Place wood logs in the fireplace, arranged loosely over the gas pipe/burner. 2. Locate the lighter with a long wand, stored on the shelf in the coat closet by the front door. After using, please store out of reach of children. 3. Using the gas key (stored on the ash can), turn on the gas. Then hold the flame of the lighter just over the gas pipe to ignite the gas. 4. Once the logs have caught, you can turn the gas down or off entirely; the logs will continue to burn on their own. 5. Add extra logs as needed to keep the fire going for as long as you'd like to enjoy it. Fireplace Safety Always use the fireplace screen while the fire is burning. Never leave a fire unattended - and please don't go to sleep with an active fire burning. Keep children and pets a safe distance from the fireplace. Make sure the fire is fully out (or the gas fully off with logs cooled) before you leave the property. Wrightwood, California Page 9 THE OWL'S NEST CONTENTS 6. Retrolife Vinyl Record Player Feel free to spin the vinyl collection, or stream your own music through the built-in speakers via Bluetooth. Playing a Record 1. Make sure the function switch is set to Phono/Turntable mode (not Bluetooth). 2. Choose the correct speed for your record - 33, 45, or 78 RPM - using the speed switch (most records are 33 or 45). 3. Place the record gently on the platter. For 45 RPM records, use the small adapter for the center spindle if needed. 4. Carefully lift the tonearm and set the needle down at the edge of the record - try to avoid dropping it. 5. Use the volume knob to adjust the sound. Many models auto-stop when the record finishes. Streaming via Bluetooth 1. Flip the function switch to BT (Bluetooth) mode - the indicator light will blink. 2. On your phone or tablet, open Bluetooth settings and connect to the turntable. 3. Once paired, play music from your device as you would with any Bluetooth speaker. Good to Know Please handle records and the needle gently - try not to touch the needle tip itself. Scentsy "Whoot" Owl Wax Warmer Our owl-shaped warmer (a little nod to the property's namesake!) fills the space with a warm glow and a lovely scent - no flame required. 1. Place one or two wax melts or wax cubes in the dish on top of the warmer. 2. Plug the warmer in, then flip the switch to turn it on. 3. Give it about 5-10 minutes for the light bulb inside to warm the dish and release the fragrance. 4. When you're ready to turn it off, flip the switch and allow the dish to cool before touching or moving it. Good to Know The warmer uses gentle bulb heat, not an open flame - but the top dish does get hot, so keep it away from little hands. TV & Speakers Use the Firestick and receiver below the television to get set up. 1. Use the Firestick remote and press the Power button to turn on the TV. 2. When prompted, choose the Guest option to log in to the Firestick. 3. From there, feel free to sign in to any of your own streaming apps to watch during your stay! 4. For sound, turn on the receiver below the television, which powers the speakers connected to the TV - use the volume knob on the receiver to control the speaker volume. Alternatively, the TV's built-in speakers also work and can be controlled with the remote. Hamilton Beach 2-Way Brewer Brew a full pot for the table, or a single cup to go - this machine does both with regular ground coffee (no pods needed). Full Pot (Carafe Side) 1. Lift the lid and fill the reservoir with cold water, up to the 12-cup line (don't fill past it). 2. Add ground coffee to the permanent filter in the brew basket. Using a paper filter with the permanent filter helps keep coffee grounds from getting into the pot. 3. Choose Regular or Bold with the Select-a-Brew button, then press the I/O button to start brewing. 4. The carafe has AutoPause & Pour, so you can sneak a cup mid-brew if you can't wait. The warming plate keeps coffee hot, and the machine shuts off automatically after 2 hours. NEXT: SINGLE CUP Wrightwood, California Page 14 THE OWL'S NEST CONTENTS 9. Brewer - Single Cup Single Cup / Travel Mug Side 1. Fill the single-serve reservoir with water to your desired cup size (marked up to 14 oz). 2. Use the included scoop to add ground coffee to the single-serve brew basket - don't fill past the max line. 3. Place your cup or travel mug on the cup rest, and press the I/O button to start brewing. 4. The coffee maker will shut off automatically when brewing is complete. Good to Know The machine brews on only one side at a time. This model is not compatible with K-Cup pods - please use ground coffee only. Yard & Board Games Rainy day or golden afternoon, game time is always a good idea! Our yard games are stored in the closet near the front door - the cornhole boards, with two sets of bags, lean right there in the closet, and the rest are in a plastic tub on the shelf: Frisbee Lawn darts Horseshoes Board games can be found in the cabinets underneath the television and in the cabinet beneath the speaker next to the TV. Set up on the ground outside in the lot next door, pick your teammates, and let the friendly competition begin. However you keep score, everybody wins with a view like this.
