October 30, 2020 A letter for employees from Canada Post’s Joint National Equity and Diversity Committee Last summer, we let you know about our Joint National Equity and Diversity Committee with a mandate to create a more equitable, diverse and caring workplace where people feel safe, supported, respected and empowered. This includes closing equity gaps for underrepresented groups as well as an action plan to address racial injustice. We asked for your input so we could begin to create a plan grounded in meaningful and sustainable change that would help Canada Post reach these goals. We would like to sincerely thank those of you who provided feedback. Your voices have been heard, and we acknowledge the courage it takes to speak up about this difficult topic. With your help, Canada Post, in collaboration with its bargaining agents, has created a three-point anti-racism action plan that includes specific initiatives for addressing racial injustice and increasing equity. The goal of this plan is to ensure that our work environment is a place where all employees can feel safe, supported, respected and empowered. We would like to share the outline of this three-point plan with you today. Details of Canada Post’s Anti-Racism Action Plan In order to empower all employees from all backgrounds and equalize the experience of racialized employees, Canada Post and its Unions have proposed the following 3 tier action plan: 1. We are committing to investing resources. This includes: • Allocating roughly $5 million to equity, diversity and accessibility programs over the next 5 years. • Expanding the work of the Joint National Equity and Diversity Committee with all Unions to address racial discrimination, including racism directed against Black employees. • Establishing an anti-racism Employee Resource Group that will explore problems and recommend solutions. 2. We are deploying training, awareness and support tools. • All Team Leaders and union representatives will receive Unconscious Bias training in 2021. • We will enhance the Respect in the Workplace training and human rights training to include anti-racism and unconscious bias for all employees. • We are working on a Safe Space Toolkit to help teams respectfully open up dialogue on racism. • We have a dedicated diversity contact email - diversity.diversite@canadapost.ca – where you can confidentially raise issues of racism. All cases will be handled with the utmost confidentiality safeguards following the Privacy Act and your information will be protected at all times. • Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is always there for you and can be reached at 1-866-565-4903. Page 1 of 2 3. We are implementing ways to increase representation. • We will be connecting with current racialized employees who are interested in career planning and talent development. • We will have dedicated positions for racialized individuals for existing Co-op, Summer Students and Student Grant programs (Management and PSAC), with the intent to expand to other groups. • We will be working with our vendors and procurement team with the aim to increase representation within our suppliers’ portfolio as well as via recruitment partnerships. This action plan will help us to continue to build a strong foundation upon which we can create a more respectful workplace along with access to equal opportunities for all our employees. Canada Post will strive to represent Canada’s diversity and provide a safe and welcoming workplace that embraces and celebrates our differences to better reflect and delight the customers and communities we serve. Sharing your feedback We once again are asking anyone who has suggestions or feedback on how we can further advance our goals in relation to anti-racism to share them with the Joint National Equity and Diversity Committee at ( diversity.diversite@canadapost.postescanada.ca ). All feedback is welcome. Please note, your correspondence with us will remain confidential and your personal information will be protected in accordance with the Privacy Act and any relevant provisions of our No Discrimination/No Harassment Policy, Employee Privacy Policy and Information Security Policy.
