Independent journalist assaulted by Police at Auckland Airport Last issue’s header quote should have been saved for this week given our lead story: but then again, who could have guessed the suppression of independent journalism in New Zealand would involve the Police, and turn physically violent? To jog your memory of the quote, Australian geopolitical journalist John Pilger said: "Real journalists are agents of people." Ex-broadcaster and trained lawyer Liz Gunn has been advocating for the people and democracy since she first posted to YouTube her ‘Love Letters to New Zealand’ in 2021, passionately addressing viewers about her deep concerns about our democracy, and vowing to use her skills to expose stories of Government overreach left in the shadows by mainstream media. She’s since been dedicated to telling Kiwi stories of standing up, for their bodily autonomy, freedoms of speech and choice - and has also extended to issues like Three Waters and the Therapeutic Products Bill. Gunn’s investigation has not been limited to our shores. Since the middle of last year, her coverage of a Tokelau family under house arrest has been some of her most comprehensive work. The Patelesio family refused the Covid19 vaccine in 2021, at a time when the virus hadn’t even entered the island. Their local council had them put under tunoa or housebound lockdown, segregating them from the rest of the community, who tormented them. The New Zealand Administrator to Tokelau at the time was Jacinda Ardern’s father, Ross Ardern - and Gunn says the harsh treatment of the Patelesio family should never have happened under his watch. Several interviews have been conducted between Liz and the different family members about their plight, all available on her website FreeNZ. https://freenz.substack.com/ She helped to raise money for the family’s successful legal challenge, directing donations to a third party, and initiating contact with lawyers who had the tunoa lifted in September last year. Over the weekend Liz and her cameraman went to Auckland Airport to film the Patelesios arriving into New Zealand, who had decided to leave Tokelau after what they’d been through. It’s permitted to film friends at the Airport - though if it’s for news media, prior notice is advised. While Gunn didn’t acquire permission before attempting to film at the airport, she is without doubt friends with the Patelesios - the rules concern airport staff, rather than police. But an officer arrived to remove Gunn, who’d been served no trespass notice. A conversation was had where Gunn applied her knowledge of the law: “I said, twice, ‘Could you please tell me under what piece of legislation are you doing this?’ The second time, he snarled at me: ‘I don't have to tell you that!’” ”Since when, Sir?” she replied. FreeNZ Journalist Liz Gunn is arrested by force, and charged with assault - though she doesn't know what the charge relates to. A 1) March 5 2) Healthpost www.healthpost.co.nz/about- us/responsible-sourcing/therapeutic-products-bill 3) Prof. John Ioannidis 4) None 5) 2010-2011, worked on non-communicable disease prevention and control. Gunn holding her injured wrist after handcuffs were removed by Police. “Since forever,” came the reply - which Gunn called “lamentably unintelligent and untrue.” “I am 63, weigh less than half that hulk's size, offered no resistance, and within 15 seconds he had my arm sharply and very roughly high twisted behind my back, was pulling at my thumb while contorting my hand at the wrist, and kicking me under my body. As I screamed out ‘Stop it! You're hurting me...’ he grunted with animalistic satisfaction: ‘Good.’” Gunn sustained a fractured wrist and trauma all the way up her arm, which rests now bound in a sling. “He went out of his way to rough me up,” she says. As she recovers from the injury, a charge of assault has been laid against her but she has not been told why. Auckland Police would not be drawn on details of the alleged assault due to the matter now being before the courts. During the incident, Gunn says her cameraman was also tackled to the ground and his equipment confiscated afterwards. Gunn is set to appear at the Manukau District Court on 23 March, but says managing the pain in her wrist and recovering physically is all she’s focusing on for now. Eventually however, Gunn says she’ll be making a stand to have such police brutality discontinued in New Zealand. She writes on her FreeNZ website: “I have many stories of Police abuses and can now personally testify to their violence and arrogance and lack of depth of understanding of the laws that are meant to hold them in check. Are not those very qualities, the hallmarks of creeping and sinister fascism?” ~Samantha Blanchard How did the mainstream media cover the arrest? ...With a tweet from Hilary Barry. Recommended Reading What an enormous scam the NZ government have instigated, with the media, the universities and Netsafe providing the public face, allowing the government to distance itself from its totalitarianism. An independent provincial New Zealand journalist writes an evidence-based report of what's going on: www.thelookingglass.co.nz/ministry-of-truth Another startling read is 'The Road to Fascism ' by Simon Elmer, a UK writer who has seen the lurch from capitalism in the West (our so-called democracies) to the Global Biosecurity State: “The willingness of our governments to use the forces of the state against their own populations on the justification of protecting us from ourselves signals a new level of authoritarianism - and something like the return of fascism - to the governmental, juridical and cultural forms of the formerly neo-liberal democracies of the West, and one of the aims of this book is to examine the validity of this thesis”. ~Nicola Basham The sentiment among comments both below Barry's tweet and on Facebook beneath the video of The Platform's Sean Plunket and his sarcastic treatment of the incident, was overwhelmingly in support of Liz Gunn. But don't take our word for it. Golden Bay's Head to Toe Wellness Day A day of exploring holistic health led by local registered nurse Wendy Trimmer and career mental healthcare worker Sunshine Appleby took place at The Sustainable Living Centre on Saturday. Topics were presented by a variety of experienced clinicians adhering to a core theme of empowering people to help themselves. The topics included; how to carry out a 'head to toe assessment of someone's well-being, particularly after a significant accident, Epigenetics, managing chronic conditions, Arts Therapy, Personal Resourcefulness with EFT, Electromagnetic Frequency Radiation, Herbal First Aid, COVID 19 vaccine adverse events and pregnancy. A key concern raised and discussed during the day was the increasing strain and challenges the DHB system is facing and the impacts reduced services are having on public well-being. Emerging alternative models of care were discussed, including The People's Health Alliance initiative, a UK based outfit which seeks to educate, facilitate and collaborate a People's approach to health, which is less reliant on big drug companies and 'big anything' - according to their website. A follow up workshop day was suggested for about a month's time. Many of those attending supported the event with extensive and delicious gifts of food which all enjoyed at lunch and in the tea breaks. A good time was had by all and even the sun shone! ~Clive James The Inside Job - a locally offered pathway to increased self-awareness An opportunity for teens to set their sights inside is on offer in Golden Bay. Recognising both the importance and the absence of conversation around knowing thyself, Pohara’s Annie Turner has designed a one-on-one programme of three one-hour long sessions aimed (but not limited to) teenagers who want to learn some tools for that discovery. “Unless we know ourselves, what’s going on for us inside, we won’t be able to move so strongly and subtly through life. It’s teaching very simple breath tools so that people can empty themselves out, to look clearly at their thoughts, emotions and how they react, so they can understand themselves more. It’s a conversation that’s not been had in society much, in schools for example, so jI'm offering that to teenagers so they can operate from more of an understanding of themselves going into adulthood,” says Annie. Having trained as a teacher then engaging in re-evaluation counseling for 11 years, Annie says she’s garnered “great insight into how emotions operate, along with the ability to hold space for people when they release.” “A lot of people in the West say ‘shhhh’ with young ones, and say ‘don’t cry!’ but often what the kid is needing to do, is to cry - but we’re not coming from that perspective, and it’s very interesting to turn that all around... and to understand that emotions are really energetics, and when they’re released, in a very simplistic way, there’s more space for the person to think more clearly which is fundamental. When we’re full of emotions we can’t think clearly.” Annie says koha exchange sessions can be held in Pohara or on Zoom, and she can be reached on 0274546706. Annie Turner - The Inside Job A note from the editor: My favourite quote since the conception of the GB Thinker remains this, from local youth health nurse Diane Sowman, who is keenly watchful of youth health, and particularly of how children have been affected by public health measures since the pandemic: “Holistic health isn’t some hippy-dippy new-age BS , it’s your basic * bleeping* meat and potatoes.” Excuse the expletives, but they do capture the frustration in which this was said! I find the Te Ao Maori model for hauora /health, developed by psychiatrist Sir Mason Durie, particularly good for illustrating what holistic health is, and it’s wonderful that we have different initiatives happening in Golden Bay which look to increase awareness of looking after oneself, and each other, with a multi-pronged approach! ~Sam What if holistic health awareness had been part of our Covid-19 strategy? There are over 50 programs run in the USA that involve spraying the sky with various chemicals for various purposes, among them weather modification purposes. How these programs affect our climate and affect our health and our agriculture are questions that need to be addressed. Rosalind Peterson, a former US Department of Agriculture farm advisor specialising in energy and crop management testified to the UN in 2007 presenting her decades-old research, warning about the harmful consequences if these experiments continue.
