Blue Heron, Friday March 13th, 7:30 PM An immigrant Hungarian family of six settles into their new home on Vancouver Island in the early 1990s as internal dynamics are slowly revealed through the eyes of the youngest child. Blue Heron , the feature debut from Sophy Romvari , is a surprising and tremendously moving indie drama drawn from the filmmaker’s own memories. The film starts slowly, a memory piece about a troubled brother that the one remembering couldn’t save, but Romvari pivots halfway through into something more ambitious and emotionally affecting. It becomes a sister piece, in some ways, to Aftersun by Charlotte Wells, in its use of videotape as a turn - of - the - century fabric able to capture and conjure the human soul. The film was a breakout critical success on the fest circuit, premiering at Locarno to raves before traveling to TIFF for more of the same. It’s a major film, one of the best of 2025, and an announcement of the deep talent of its writer/director. Trailer for Blue Heron Interview with the Director Drama - Runtime 1 h 30 m - Canada,2025 NR BlackBerry, Saturday March 14th at 7:30 PM Matt Johnson’s wickedly funny and kinetic “BlackBerry” is a classic inventor/underdog tale about that brief and shining era when a handheld device from Canada had millions of us working our thumbs to the bone as we obsessed over that tactile, clicking keyboard. The BlackBerry was so addictive it was dubbed “ CrackBerry .” Remember? And then ... not so much. Thanks to the clever, docudrama style direction, a crackling good screenplay and searingly good performances from the ensemble cast, the scenes where BlackBerry crashes and burns are just as enthralling as the triumphant moments when an unlikely team of ragtag techno geeks based in Waterloo, Ontario, briefly revolutionized the mobile device world. This is one of those whip - smart, character - and story - driven gems that grabs you from the start and never lets go. Docudrama / Comedy Runtime 2 hours Canada – 2023 - 14A Trailer for Blackberry Menteur (Compulsive Liar), Sunday March 15th at 7:30 PM Simon has been a compulsive liar since childhood. His family, friends and colleagues organize an intervention to tell him that enough is enough and that he must stop. Unfortunately, it turns into a confrontation and Simon denies having told all these lies. Simon’s self - serving lies are so abundant that the universe (governed by a handful of Buddhist monks, it seems) decides to right a wrong by teaching him a lesson and making all of the lies reality. Disasters, zany and aberrant, follow one after another. All have one thing in common: they are the incarnation of his many lies. In this parallel universe Simon will have to face the consequences of the falsehoods he has told others for years, but also the ones – much more destructive – that he tells himself. This is a rare thing for Quebec cinema: outright fantasy, with everything that implies – a high - concept comedy that’s partially about sponsorship scandals and the looming threat of a plant closure. “ Menteur ” is “ Everything, Everywhere All at Once ” Quebecois style. Comedy - Runtime 1 hr 51 m – Canada – 2019 - PG Trailer for Menteur (Compulsive Liar) is in French without subtitles. The movie does have subtitles there’s something for everyone to sing, dance, and cheer along to. Join us for a high - energy, this is a fully interactive show, guests are encouraged to make song requests!
