Emma Whale Vice President Pearson School Qualifications Congratulatory message Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards Ceremony Egypt A Brief History of the Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards (OPLA) The Outstanding Pearson Learner Awards give recognition to the top performing international students worldwide for Pearson Edexcel. qualifications. Every year, awards ceremonies take place in countries all over the world. Many of these ceremonies have a long history and are highlights in the international school calendar. In 2025, close to 2280 students from 744 approved school from over 81 different countries are eligible to receive the student awards. To celebrate these achievements, Pearson hosted ceremonies in several countries including Bangladesh, China, India, Qatar, Spain, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia before end of 2022 and in several South-East Asia and African countries in 2023. While these ceremonies highlight the achievement of the students, it is also a great opportunity to celebrate the great work done by the schools and centres preparing these great students. All of the schools that have at least one OPLA student achiever will also be awarded with an Outstanding Pearson School Award certificate. Outstanding Pearson Learner Award Ceremony Egypt Guests are invited to join us for High Tea after the ceremony Awards Criteria Pearson Edexcel There are three Outstanding Pearson Learner Award categories per subject, open for awarding to all Pearson Edexcel learners who sat for any Pearson qualifications at an approved centre during an exam series. These categories are: The Highest Mark in the World The Highest Mark in the Region (Africa) The Highest Mark in the Country (Egypt) These awards are presented to the learners with the highest marks and highest grades in their subject in each exam series. By winning one of these awards, a learner has competed against thousands of other learners who have taken the same subject in their country and globally. If one or more learners receive the same highest score for their exam, each of these learners will receive an award. If a learner’s marks in a subject and exam series entitle them to win the Highest Mark in Country, the Highest Mark in Region and the Highest Mark in the World, they will receive only the top award, i.e., the Highest Mark in the World award for that subject. They will not then receive the Highest Mark in the Region or Highest Mark in Country award. We set minimum entry thresholds for each qualification suite (excluding UK entries) to ensure that OPLA-winning learners are selected from a sufficiently representative group of learners taking the same exam where relevant. If the number of entries for a particular subject within an exam series does not meet the minimum threshold for entries in a given series, OPLAs will not be awarded for that subject. OPLA recipients are determined based on learner’s examination results for each exam series and individual award winners are derived electronically using Pearson’s awards data generation system. We make every effort to ensure the integrity and validity of this OPLA awarding data. Results data is accurate at the time of generation.
