Thermodynamics Freezing Room Design Flash Freezing of Chicken Daniel Flores – Juan C. Ramos Christian Rosero – Luis Velasco Heat Transfer Refrigerator Wall Design Objective Introduction Conclusions Design a system which has the capacity to freeze 40 lbs of chicken at a temperature of - 20 ° F using thermodynamic, refrigeration cycles, heat transfer analysis, and establish the types of materials used for the refrigerator wall model All of this with the objective to select the best devices for the flash freezing of chicken In this project we applied the basic knowledge learned in the semester to find values of heat transfer, thermal coefficients and thermal resistances, using analytical calculations for the design of the freezer chamber in Autodesk Inventor and comparing it with the CoolSelector 2 program that finds the correct components for the compressor, evaporator and condenser IME 4003E Heat Transfer Figure 1 S chematic of the freezing device Figure 4 Simulation of the Freezing Room wall For the heat transfer calculations, the first thing we did was to choose the materials from which the freezer room will be made Using two layers of aluminum and a glass fiber, we calculated the values of the heat transfer that will exist between the environment and the wall, also between the materials and finally, between the wall and the interior For this, the values of the heat coefficients and the thermal resistances were calculated The heat transfer final value is : For the design of the cold room, we performed a set of iterations so that we can select a device through the Coolselector 2 program which allows us to cool the 40 pounds of chicken in the given time For that we use the cold room option and a thermodynamic analysis of the Vapor - Compression Refrigeration Cycle, we were able to determine results such as : required power, COP and energy removal from the refrigerated space, respectively : ̇ 𝑊 !"#$%&% = 26 , 64 5 𝑘 𝑊 𝑠 ̇ 𝑄 ' = 84 87 𝑊 𝑠 𝐶𝑂𝑃 = 3 19 𝑄 # = 17 449 𝑊 • Using the Coolselector 2 application, for the first iteration we suppose the data of the model MTZ 050 - 3 then we selected again the model for the results and finally we decided to use for the freezing room the device HRM 054 U 2 unit which provides a maximum power of 2900 W • Thermodynamic and Heat Transfer concepts were correctly applied to design the system for freezing the chickens Through the design of the refrigerator model the objective is achieved and it can be implemented in the industrial field to be commercialized and thus be a refrigeration option to meet the needs of rapid cooling Figure 2 Cycle of the refrigerator R 488 a used for the freezing room With the selection of the freezing room devices, we obtained the P - h diagram which allows us to study the different compression refrigeration systems Figure 3 Composition of Freezing Room Wall
