Drawing from oral histories, maps, and cultural memory, the circu lar wall becomes a portal into the past - blending storytelling, nature, and history into a layered, immersive experience. The mural depicts a panoramic tropical scene: the former cemetery hill, fl owing streams, a modest footbridge, rows of Gambier plants, and native wildlife such as tigers, mousedeer, hornbills, and butter fl ies that are carefully aligned with the site’s historical terrain. The wall’s curved form echoes traditional Teo Chew tombs, transforming the mural into a vessel of remembrance, where visitors step “into” the past through image and form. At the centre stands a living tree, accompanied by SONG’s spiral fl ower sculpture - both botanical and spiritual markers. A butter fl y perches at the top, symbolising transformation and the enduring connection between past and present. Together, the mural and sculpture blur the boundary between painted history and living environment, invit ing visitors not just to observe history, but to step within it. *S CAPE Co., Ltd. 2 Orchard Link #04 - 05 Singapore 237978 www.scape.sg About the Artist SONG is a multi - disciplinary artist from Singapore whose practice blends gra ffi ti, fi ne art, and storytelling into vibrant landscapes that reimagine cultural memory and identity.
