INTRODUCTION TO MMA WELDING AND ITS APPLICATIONS. accounts@raysun.ae Manual metal arc welding (MMA), also known as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), is a popular technique used for many years across various industries. It involves joining two metal pieces using an electric arc and a consumable electrode covered in flux. MMA welding is frequently employed in the construction, shipbuilding, and pipeline fabrication industries. In addition, it is beneficial for welding materials that are difficult to weld using other welding techniques, such as cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. MMA welding begins by connecting the electrode holder to the power source and selecting the appropriate electrode based on the type of metal being welded. The electrode is inserted into the holder, and the welding circuit is completed by hitting an arc between the article and the electrode. As the arc heats up, the electrode melts and deposits filler metal onto the workpiece. At the same time, the flux covering the electrode creates a shield around the weld pool, protecting it from contaminants in the air and preventing oxidation. Click Here
