I always appreciate everyone’s efforts to keep me accountable. I do want to lay out some of the background conversations I have had and reassure you all of a few things. First, I am still supportive of getting this overlay for the neighborhood. Second, the proposed re-zoning for the Nations has no bearing on my continued support for this overlay. With that being said, I also want to assure each of you that I will not be bringing any such type of zoning change (similar to the Nations UDO) anywhere in D25. Those kinds of zoning changes are wholly inappropriate for our area. Third, I have been discussing with planning staff the paperwork needed to initiate the process through the planning department and what all is needed to finalize the overlay plans with Metro. Lastly, I had intended on having a community meeting to discuss the results of the poll towards the end of July. As I have communicated to some of you, the overlay received nearly 70% support through the poll. The reason the reason the July meeting did not happen was because I received a request from a few separate neighbors to delay the meeting until after school started 1) because people planned on being out of town for last minute vacations 2 before school and 2) to allow families to get in the grove with school and after school schedules. I found that request to be reasonable and honored that request. I take full ownership of not having more clearly and proactively communicated 1) the conversations I have been having behind the scenes and 2) that I delayed the meeting because of this request. I failed to properly communicate with you all and for that I truly do apologize. With that said, I am working on finalizing planning and scheduling for a community meeting for the neighborhood in about two weeks on Wednesday September 3 rd at 6:00. I will be sending out the announcement for that meeting via the newsletter which will include all of the needed information for the meeting. Again, I take full responsibility for not having properly communicated all this information to you all and want to reaffirm my commitment to you all and this project. Thank you for your efforts on this and for taking time to hold me accountable. I truly do appreciate each one of you and am happy to answer any questions you may have. I know a few other people who have also emailed our council member about this to also get no response. -TO Sent from my iPhone On Aug 15, 2025, at 4:40 PM, Mike Thomas < mthomas@insuranceincorporated.com > wrote: Thank you so much Karl for this input.....very much appreciated Michael W. Exercise caution when opening attachments or clicking links, especially from unknown senders. Jeff: The leadership of Ellen and Tom are evident in the emails below. Know that they speak for the vast majority of neighbors in the historic Green Hills neighborhood. I was talking with a Metro Parks employee yesterday at Beaman Park (where I volunteer). The employee’s father has pictures of the neighborhood, pictures that pre-date World War II. He was eager to learn more, not knowing that the original Green Hills is a small part of what folks today generally understand to be Green Hills. History almost lost. Resurrected by the current initiative. I am eager to “pass the hat” to install an Historic Marker(s), educating Nashvillians on our neighborhood’s contribution to Nashville history. And perhaps new street signs designating the historic nature of the neighborhood. I trust you are eager to help us reach the point where we can “pass the hat.” 5 Thanks. As a neighborhood we have: 1. Gauged Neighborhood Interest and Learned what is involved 2. Connected with metro Historic Zoning Commission & Staff 3. Hosted Neighborhood Meetings both small groups and at large 4. Defined the Boundaries 5. Drafted the Design Guidelines (Robin Ziegler has drafted these based on the specific desires of our neighborhood) You don't often get email from bauer@baueraskewarchitecture.com Learn why this is important 6 6. Confirmed majority support through our own informal survey and we assume you have found the same in your polling (The goal that you mentioned you were comfortable with is 60% in favor, we are confident that we exceed this.) As Ellen stated, the neighborhood has accomplished all that is required of us and is eager to proceed to the next step which we understand is to Submit an Official Overlay Application to Metro Planning Commission . This step is typically required to be executed by our Councilmember, but as an alternative we have been advised that we could possibly have another councilmember sponsor us -- Ellen Green Hoffman 615-498-0529
