Why Flood Pumps? Palm oil prices have been resilient even during the pandemic when prices of mineral oil and other commodities have collapsed. Investment in water management infrastructure for oil palm estates provides a good Return on Investment (ROI) and payback period can be less than 1 year while the benefits of high FFB yields can be realized over a long period. Tide gates which are useful in coastal areas and at the downstream end of rivers are not effective when the estate is far from the sea and tidal fluctuations become non existent. For flat areas especially where organic soil is present the land needs assisted drainage to maintain the desired water table level for optimum plant growth and fruiting and also to ensure the fertilizers applied are not washed away. It also protects estate roads and other infrastructu re. Fields in flood prone areas have low FFB yield. The yields can be improved with proper water management infrastructure to manage the water levels. To achieve high FFB yields, the water levels in the field need to be well managed. Excess water after heavy rain can be quickly removed using flood pumps to avoid prolonged waterlog conditions which is detrimental to yields. The flood pumps traditionally used in plantations are now obsolete technology compared to the new pump designs which are capable of very much higher flow rates at lower power requirements. Grundfos flood pumps have been successfully used to alleviate flooding of oil palm plantations but it is not common knowledge in the industry yet. Every area available needs to be productive and being flood prone is no longer an acceptable reason for low yields. Unplantable land can be made plantable with suitable water management infrastructure. Power management is very important. Power required for the pumps are usually sourced from the oil mills. This can be from the boiler powered turbines or from biogas engines. Where power is inadequate, power sharing can be considered as pumping is required only intermittently when there are flood waters to be removed. Other power sources can also be used. This has been used and proven to be effective and extremely economical for oil palm estates. (941252-A) KB v08 Nexus is a project dealer for Grundfos flood pumps. Our team has support from Grundfos and are trained in the design as well as the operation and maintenance of the pumps. A copy of the Grundfos pump brochure is attached for your perusal. Nexus team is led by Terence Foo, a mechanical engineer, and supported by Ir Danny Tan who is a Chartered Civil Engineer with many years experience in the field of river hydrology and hydraulics in consultancy and government service before joining the plantation sector. His last posting in Golden Hope Plantations was Head of Engineering prior to its merger with Guthrie and Sime Darby. Nexus team of professional engineers and specialists in various disciplines have been involved in many projects including pumping stations in Kalimantan and is well equipped to design and implement your drainage system to meet the requirements of the terrain, soil type, and flooding experienced at each location. Nexus services include design of drainage system and pumping station, and supply and installation of pumps and ancillary equipment such as control panel, penstock and flap gates. Nexus can also provide complete turnkey solution including civil works if required. Why Nexus? Grundfos is a multinational company specialising in pumps with headquarters in Denmark and with annual turnover of USD 4.4 billion and over 19,000 staff. Grundfos factories are located in many countries around the world and their pumps are for industrial and domestic use, renown for its quality and reliability Grundfos new pump technology is a game changer as it is very efficient. The flood pumps with flow of 5,000 mt per hour for 75 kW power was unheard of in the industry. This can fill a 2,000 mt CPO tank in just 24 minutes. Grundfos has a service center in Balikpapan, offices in Jakarta and Surabaya, and a regional office in Kuala Lumpur . Grundfos is well positioned to provide prompt technical support when required for pump installation and maintenance. Why Grundfos Pumps?
