PRONOUNS A pronoun is a part of speech that is used in place of a noun. It is noun substitute. KINDS OF PRONOUN 1. Personal Pronoun- it stands for a person. It indicates by its form the speaker (I, We), the person spoken to (You), and the person spoken of (he/she/it/they) PERSON SINGULAR PLURAL First Person( Speaker ) Second Person(Spoken to) Third Person (Spoken of) I You He/she/it we You they 2. Reflexive Pronoun- a certain form of personal pronoun added by “self” Examples: myself, himself, herself, ourselves, themselves, itself, etc. He himself drives the car. 3. Relative Pronoun- refers to a noun it precedes. Relative pronouns are who, whom, whose, which, and that. The lady, who is in white dress, is my girlfriend. 4. Demonstrative Pronoun- points out a particular person, places or things. That is my house. This is my book. These are our pets. Those are roses. 5. Interrogative Pronoun- is used in asking questions. Interrogative pronouns are who, which, where, when, what, whom and whose. Who are you? Which is your pen? 6. Indefinite Pronoun- is used in expressing quantities that are vague or unknown. Anyone could attend my party. Few of my friends got sick. 7. Reciprocal Pronoun- indicates exchange of action. Josie and Gilbert love each other. ANTECEDENT An antecedent is the noun to which the pronoun refers. Example: Romnique is our gardener, he cleaned the garden. He is the pronoun referring to the noun Romnique, thus Romnique is the antecedent in the sentence.
