Cabinet volume switch assembly Stern SAM, SPIKE & SPIKE2 pinball machines (see page 2 for older cabinets with square cutout) Installation: (make sure machine is powered OFF) 1. Remove the Stern plug under the start button, pliers may be needed to loosen nut. 2. Insert the wiring harness through the hole and align with the blue wire on top.Hand tighten the nut. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. 3. Route the wire into the white cable clamp, on th inside. On the outside, make sure the switch is straight up and down. 4. Remove 2 screws on the menu button bracket. 5. Disconnect the brown connector from the menu buttons. Plug the brown connector into the header pins (yellow) on the new volume assembly and secure with a wire tie. Plug the white connector with the black dot into the menu buttons. 6. Refasten the menu buttons, taking care not to crush wires. Run the harness up above the coin mechs and wire tie as needed. Check for proper operation of coin door, making sure no pinched wires. All done, close up machine and test. Page 2: Installation with older cabinets with the square recess hole 1. Remove the round plug under the start button, and insert the volume harness with the included spacer. (spacer not needed on newer cabinets) 2. The switch assembly will now be flush with the cabinet. Make sure the BLUE wires are on top. Attach the supplied nut hand tight, and check for up and down alignment. The older coin door switch assemblies, do not have a circuit board underneath, so you need to disconnect the 2 connectors by cutting the wire tie.(see photo) 3. Keep the white coupler connected to the coin door buttons, and plug the white connector with the black dot from the volume harness into it. You may have to modify the coupler (see photo) 4. Plug the other brown connector into the headers on the harness (yellow), and secure both connectors with wire ties. (see photo) 5. Route the wires over the coin mechs and secure with ties, making sure no wires pinch when closing the door. Power on and test.
