ANSWERED PRAYERS The pain was so severe, It brought me to tears, And made me want to shout aloud, Normally that would not be allowed, Considering what I was going through, It was ok this time for me to do, For the child I was giving birth to, Wasn't doing what it should do, It was coming out feet first, Instead of headfirst, Which was causing me considerable pain, From all the strain, But even though I was being torn, I accepted it all for I really wanted this child to be born, It is because the doctor had said, The child would be born dead, I knew in my heart he was wrong, Because of the feeling I had which was really strong, That I would hear the child cry, The doctor did not make the feeling go away no matter how hard he tried, For I got that feeling, At the foot of my bed kneeling, Crying to the heavenly father, Begging him to allow me to be a mother, Even if afterwards I had to die, I would go without cry, I was not the only one that wanted this baby The man who made me A lady, When he took me as his wife, For the rest of his life, He was right there beside me, Always encouraging me, Telling me it was going to be all right, Even though to him it was a losing fight, For his heart was filled with dread, When he heard what the doctor had said, About how the mother could die too, And if with his birth she was allowed to go through, But he knew there was no changing my mind, No matter how many excuses he could find, So he stood beside me holding my hand like a good husband, Well the got doctor got tired of waiting, So with me ranting and raving, He reached up in side of me and took hold of the child and pulled him free, The motion caused me to scream and wince, Afterwards there was only silence, All I could do was stare, At the child that had been at the center of all my prayers, In the doctors arms the baby was not crying, And I looked toward heaven, Remember me heavenly father, I'm the one that was to be a mother, Have you forgotten this, And was my prayer amiss, The doctor was shaking his head, And saying the baby was dead, He almost dropped the baby in surprise, When the child let out a loud cry, It was as if it had been waiting for a signal, Before beginning to cry and wiggle, All me and my husband could do then was shout for joy, Especially when the Dr. said it was a boy, At this all my fears went away, As I closed my eyes and began to pray, To thank my heavenly father, For allowing me to be a mother,
