B A C K T O S C H O O L ? J U N E 2 0 2 1 Caravel Families We would like to thank you for your partnership and trust as we strive to provide a productive and rewarding treatment environment for your child. We also appreciate your collaborating with our clinical teams to deliver measurable, meaningful outcomes as we commit to treatment progress together. Seasonally, and with schools hopefully returning to in - person learning models in the fall, it’s an important time for parents and caregivers to collabo rate on the best post - summer plans for children receiving medically necessary treatment. Each summer we are approached by parents suggesting reductions to the treatment being delivered or otherwise cut their children’s treatment schedules. This often carr ies into lighter fall schedules or pre - mature transitions to school environments. Long - established industry research, as well as Caravel’s own treatment data (we record more than 200,000 metrics every day ) support the relationship between the amount of A BA treatment received by learners and their progress on achieving targets and preparing for learning and growth in non - ABA settings. Your partnership and support make that happen. Whether through holding to committed treatment schedules or reinforcing ski ll acquisition in the home setting, we can continue to make critical progress at the right age in the support of your child. One of the biggest sources of pride, and joy, for Caravel clinical teams is “graduating” our young clients into a reduced sched ule or out of ABA treatment entirely when they are ready to move to the next phase of their journey. If your child is at this stage, we help assess and prepare for school readiness through a variety of baselines and programs and are happy to coordinate wi th schools to share planning and collaborate on care models to facilitate smooth transitions. Some of our most regrettable days, however, are when clients go to school settings well before their ABA therapy is complete, against medical advice and counter to their prescribed treatment. Too often these children return to ABA after months or years of difficulty in a school setting with inadequate treatment support and they have regressed materially. They are then faced with limited opportunities to regain t he skills and learning they were set to achieve. As you consider some of these important decisions for the Fall of 2021, please empower yourself with your child’s outcomes data and progress, as shared with the advice of your child’s BCBA or me. We are h appy to provide school readiness assessments and share the potential your child is poised to realize, whether in school or through continuing ABA until ready for school. Thank you, again, for entrusting your child’s care with Caravel. It is our honor, o bligation, and mission to change lives together with you, and we are grateful for that opportunity and calling. Sincerely,
