Welcome to Taiwan! Thank you for choosing our apartment. Here’s a little guide: To get to the apartment, take the Brown line to 科技大樓站 (K ē jì Dàlóu Zhàn - Technology Building), walk south toward Heping Donglu (big street with two way tra ffi c), turn left and walk until you fi nd the alley as seen in the pictures below (should be the second road to the left). Enter the alley and turn right. You’ll fi nd the building in your left (red door with a dragon knob). The keys will be at the Family Mart nearby (once you’ve found the red door, continue into the narrow alley until you reach a road, make a left and Family Mart will be right there). Give your name and they will give you the keys. The apartment is on the last fl oor. Here are a few guidelines: - please use the slippers provided (you will fi nd them on the right hand side after you’ve entered the apartment). - The trash system in Taiwan is a bit complicated. Ideally, please separate the following: A) Plastic containers (anything “hard” plastic that isn’t thin plastic) along with cans and glass bottles B) Polystyrene C) Paper D) Compost (there is a compost bin near the sink) E) Everything else (in an OFFICIAL Taipei Trash Bag, it’s the same one you can get from any supermarket or 7/11 etc). If it’s too complicated or you don’t have time, please at least separate hard plastic/cans/bottles and the rest. Garbage collection is located on Heping Donglu (along where the MRT passes) every day at 9:20pm except Wednesday and Sunday. There is also one near Family Mart (the one where you pick the keys from) at 5:50pm. If you don’t plan on dropping the compost, please don’t use it as it will be di ffi cult to clean if food stays there for a whole week! - You’re welcome to use the kitchen. Please only use plastic and wood in the non-stick pans! - If it gets too hot you can use the AC, the remote is in the master bedroom. - To avoid getting mosquitoes, make sure you immediately close the entrance door as well as the door to the balcony. - To avoid cockroaches (we are very lucky to be entirely cockroach free in this apartment) keep the bucket in the bathroom over the drain (otherwise they will climb up). - Please try to water the plants at least once if you can! If you need to smoke, please restrict it to the balcony area, thank you! Around the apartment: You can fi nd a supermarket across from Family Mart. There’s also a Carrefour that opens until midnight if you keep walking north from Family Mart, on the right side. You will also fi nd a badminton court as well as various small stores. In terms of restaurants, there are many to choose from. A personal favorite is 泔 米食堂 There’s also a Tibetan restaurant on the way to the one I just mentioned. There is a fruit-bubble tea called Mr. Wish near the Family Mart, as well as a Taiwanese bakery with decent mochi near the station (I-JySheng).
