Anglo-Saxon(ist) Pasts, postSaxon Futures traces the integral role that colonialism and racism play in the field formerly known as Anglo-Saxon studies by tracking the development of the “Anglo-Saxonist,” an overtly racialized term that describes a person whose affinities point towards white nationalism. That scholars continue to call themselves “Anglo-Saxonists,” despite urgent calls to combat racism within the field, suggests that this term is much more than just a professional appellative. It is, this book argues, a ghost in the machine of early medieval studies—a spectral figure created by a group of nineteenth-century historians, archaeologists, and philologists responsible for not only framing the interdisciplinary field of "Anglo-Saxon" studies but for also encoding ideologies of British colonialism and Anglo-American racism within the field’s methods and pedagogies.Anglo-Saxon(ist) pasts, postSaxon Futures is at once a historiography of Anglo-Saxon studies, a mourning of its Anglo-Saxonist “fathers,” and an exorcism of the colonial-racial ghosts that lurk within the field’s scholarly methods and pedagogies. Muchos argentinos abandonaron el país por razones políticas, forzados por la violencia desplegada por el terrorismo de Estado en la Argentina durante el tercer peronismo y, especialmente, en la dictadura cívico-militar de 1976 a 1983. El exilio formó parte de las violaciones a los derechos humanos tal como la persecución, detención, tortura sistematizada, apropiación de niños y desaparición forzada de personas. México fue uno de los principales países receptores de las familias exiliadas y allí los hijos debieron transitar entre las dos culturas. En este libro nos centramos en las relaciones entre arte, memoria y exilio a partir de un conjunto de producciones visuales actuales de artistas pertenecientes a esta segunda generación de exiliados políticos en México, que han retornado a la Argentina. El objetivo es indagar sobre las múltiples memorias que se cruzan en la construcción identitaria argenmex a partir de un corpus de producciones artísticas en torno al pasado reciente argentino, teniendo en cuenta la especificidad del medio artístico. Nuestra principal hipótesis sostiene que las especificidades artísticas de cada uno de los medios puestos en juego, es decir, lo fotográfico, lo corporal y lo objetual, es un espacio privilegiado para la elaboración y transmisión de memorias traumáticas, del exilio y del retorno.

Moby-Dick; or, The Whale (1851) is a novel by Herman Melville considered an outstanding work of Romanticism and the American Renaissance. Ishmael narrates the monomaniacal quest of Ahab, captain of the whaler Pequod, for revenge on Moby Dick, a white whale which on a previous voyage destroyed Ahab's ship and severed his leg at the knee. Although the novel was a commercial failure and out of print at the time of the author's death in 1891, its reputation as a Great American Novel grew during the twentieth century. William Faulkner confessed he wished he had written it himself, and D. H. Lawrence called it "one of the strangest and most wonderful books in the world", and "the greatest book of the sea ever written". "Call me Ishmael" is one of world literature's most famous opening sentences. The product of a year and a half of writing, the book is dedicated to Nathaniel Hawthorne, "in token of my admiration for his genius", and draws on Melville's experience at sea, on his reading in whaling literature, and on literary inspirations such as Shakespeare and the Bible. The detailed and realistic descriptions of whale hunting and of extracting whale oil, as well as life aboard ship among a culturally diverse crew, are mixed with exploration of class and social status, good and evil, and the existence of God. In addition to narrative prose, Melville uses styles and literary devices ranging from songs, poetry and catalogs to Shakespearean stage directions, soliloquies and asides. There were slight but important differences between the texts of the London edition, which appeared first, and the New York edition. The London publisher cut or changed sensitive passages and Melville made changes as well, including a last-minute change in the title. The work first appeared as The Whale in London in October 1851 and then under its definitive title Moby-Dick in New York in November. The whale, however, appears in both the London and New York editions as "Moby Dick", with no hyphen. The British edition was not reprinted, while the American edition was reprinted three times, the last time in 1871. Only 3,200 copies were sold during the author's life. Diese Monographie stellt die Theaterarbeit des polnischen Regisseurs Krystian Lupa erstmals in umfassender Form dem deutschsprachigen Publikum vor. Ausgehend von Lupas Biographie, einem Überblick über sein bisheriges Schaffen und seine narrative Dramaturgie über einzelne Inszenierungsanalysen bis hin zur Detailanalyse des Inszenierungszyklus nach Brochs "Die Schlafwandler" wird Lupas künstlerisches Manifest, im Theater "neue Mythen" erforschen zu wollen, diskutiert. Die Darstellung von Lupas Theaterkonzept wird im Kontext einer Mythologie zwischen Martyrologie und Messianismus betrachtet, die das polnische kulturelle Paradigma lange Jahre geprägt hat, heute jedoch im Umbruch begriffen ist. Lupas Theater funktioniert als "metaphysisches Erlebnis". Es sucht und untersucht gleichwohl menschliche Erkenntnis, weshalb es "erkenntnispsychologisches Theater" genannt wird. Als "Unterbrechung des Politischen" wartet es mit einem Sinnentwurf auf, der auf die Probe gestellt und bewußt unverändert bleibt. Lupa integriert radikale Selbsterkenntnis in eine fragmentarische Totalität, die so menschlich bleibt, daß der Mensch in ihr nicht erniedrigt wird, sondern sich erhebt.

This paper deals with the position and the powers of head of state in the legislative and the executive branch in former socialist systems. It examines the system in countries that emerged from socialist regimes, where the parliamentary system and the function of the President of the Republic as the individual head of state were introduced in the 1990s, namely in 10 (newest) Member States of the European Union. The paper elaborates on the position of the President of the Republic, the extent of the office’s powers, and the resulting cooperation between the office of the President, the executive and legislative bodies, which is also one of the fundamental criteria of the standard classification of political regimes. The powers of the President in the field of legislation are the powers based on which the relationship between the President of the Republic and the legislative authority is established. The analyzed powers that the President exercises vis-à-vis the parliament are the powers of the President in relation to the adoption of an Act, the powers that the President of the Republic has in the domain of announcing parliamentary elections and convening a parliamentary sitting, as well as the powers in the domain of dissolving the parliament and announcing early elections. In the second part the paper focuses on the relationship between the President of the Republic and the government, and, consequently, the President's powers in the formation of the government and the appointing of state officials.

Since the mid 20th century, the criticism of mass culture has been marked by the "apocalyptic" positions of many authors. Through the texts and ideas of three these "apocalyptic" authors (or, at least, of three authors defined as such: Adorno, Pasolini and Baudrillard), but also through the most current criticisms of ICT, the text suggests to re-read the apocalyptic authors. At the same time, it highlights the limits of information and communication technologies and their partial outdatedness, while also trying to draw inspiration from them in order to develop a model of media education which may keep alive the dialectical charge between the possibilities offered by technology and the pitfalls it sometimes hides. The apocalyptic authors, in fact, can support the need for a semiological, critical-sociological and pedagogical work, which considers the media as a problem, and creates and gives the subjects the analysis, interpretation and (critical) use skills of the media themselves. The aim is to create a form of literacy with respect to old and new "languages of knowledge", but above all with respect to the formation of critical and thoughtful, free and creative "well-made heads".
