This book explains the EU’s climate policies in an accessible way, to demonstrate the step-by-step approach that has been used to develop these policies, and the ways in which they have been tested and further improved in the light of experience. The latest changes to the legislation are fully explained throughout. The chapters throughout this volume show that no single policy instrument can bring down greenhouse gas emissions. The challenge facing the EU, as for many countries that have made pledges under the Paris Agreement, is to put together a toolbox of policy instruments that is coherent, delivers emissions reductions, and is cost-effective. The book stands out by the fact it covers the EU’s emissions trading system, the energy sector and other economic sectors, including their development in the context of international climate policy. This accessible book will be of great relevance to students, scholars and policy makers alike.

Die Produktivitätsentwicklung ist für Deutschland ein Schlüsselfaktor für die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung. Doch was bedeutet Produktivität, wie wird sie beeinflusst und wie kann sie gemessen werden? Im Sprachgebrauch weist Produktivität einen engen Bezug zur menschlichen Arbeit auf, während ökonomische Produktivitätskennziffern von vielerlei Einflüssen mitbestimmt werden. Neben definitorischen werden methodische Herausforderungen bei der Produktivitätsmessung benannt. Kann ein Catching-up Ostdeutschlands zwischen 1995 und 2003 gemessen werden? Die Wachstumszerlegung, der Data-Envelopment-Ansatz sowie unterschiedliche Daten lassen mehrere Schlussfolgerungen zu. Neben Differenzierungen in den Entwicklungsmustern innerhalb Ost- und Westdeutschlands dominierte die Entwicklung des Kapitalstocks die Ergebnisse.

While the causes of rampage violence have been analysed thoroughly in diverse academic disciplines, we hardly know anything about the factors that affect their consequences for public policy. This book addresses rampage shootings in Western Europe and their conditional impact on politicization and policy change in the area of gun control. TBC materials in the hot components of a gas turbine are exposed to extremely harsh environments. Therefore, the evaluation of various environmental factors in applying new TBCs is essential. Understanding the mechanisms for degradation which occur in comprehensive environments plays an important role in preventing it and improving the lifetime performance. The development of novel coating techniques can also have a significant impact on lifetime performance as they can alter the microstructure of the coating and alter the various properties resulting from it.
