The Insider NFT Bot Network That's Been Controlling the Market Behind the Scenes (We think) A PROJECT Shoutouts to @notsack3, @NFTswiper4489, screendoor, exodus, solminingpunk, papa smurf, @_etheth, Big Fud, max, dom, @cryptomiyagi_, khonshu, @boringsleuth, and more for the support and for keeping a secret. ( Y O U ' R E B E I N G F U C K E D ) Due to legal reasons this is a work of fiction and exaggeration. We're just kidding lol. Just making a lil joke. ( H O W T H I S S TA R T E D ) We were looking into random projects until we found one called Meadowmoon. This lead to a google search of the project which showed us a lot of paid PR articles for Meadowmoon about their founder. (Goofy ass photos of Mitchell from the articles) Paying for PR for yourself is a little funny, since you're trying to convince people you're important - but it's not uncommon. What was weird was how Meadowmoon, at 20,000 followers, got some PXN Whitelists to giveaway. And that this one tweet on their small account giving away 2 Whitelists got 75,000 Retweets. It doesn't sound like much since PXN had a lot of hype, but let's look into it. (The giveaway had been deleted before we got a chance to archive it) A PXN giveaway tweet on their own account giving away more whitelists on the same date did half the numbers Meadowmoon's tweet did. More engagement than this More engagement than this one 2 days later. one a week before. Add That Meadomwoon giveaway on an account with barely 20,000 followers at the time got more engagement than any PXN giveaway ever. See for yourself here. The Team Behind Meadowmoon Founder - Mitchel Pardy/@MeowyTheGreat Advisors: @gronkwizard & @OttoSuwenNFT Meowy is the founder, he's 23. He's somehow verified despite his first Tweet being in 2022 and only having 382 Pay attention to the replies on the tweets below. tweets total. His account also joined in September 2011, when he was 12, and it was dormant until 6 months ago. It's weird and we have no idea where this guy came from or who he is. Supporter: @ryandcrypto If we look at the tweets where the advisors were announced, we see thousands of bots. CLOUD SOLUTIONS TWEET 1 TWEET 2 Both of those tweets had almost 2,000 more replies than likes, and those tweets aren't even whitelist giveaways. Why are people tagging their friends in the replies? Because they're bots. Now lets go back to the winners of the Meadowmoon PXN giveaway. @PatDelores and @ShelbyH62499917 But despite winning this whitelist, they kept entering new PXN whitelist giveaways. They also wouldn't respond to DMs. (Both have now been suspended for being bots, use these bots for similarish reference instead: https://twitter.com/savoy_ang , https://twitter.com/runjeffie , https://twitter.com/ReiBeltran , https://twitter.com/po_mcgarvie Both winners of that giveaway were bots, and it did insane numbers for no reason. We can assume that the majority of the engagement on that giveaway was bots, and we see the same bots on Meadowmoons advisor tweets from above. Maybe these bots are trying to win whitelists? Maybe some of them, but why is our bot PatDelores retweeting other Meadowmoon tweets where whitelists aren't being given away? So, Meadowmoon, a project that came out of nowhere from a founder that came out of nowhere (and felt the need to post PR articles about himself) looks like they're using bots for engagement. Why isn't ryandcrypto saying anything about it? Why isn't OttoSuwen saying anything about it? Why isn't gronkwizard saying anything about it? These bots are obvious and in plain sight, the numbers don't add up, and they're all over the page. Why haven't they asked people to stop botting them or called it out? Why are they supporting a project that seems to be using bots for engagement? And if the bots are here for whitelists, why are they on tweets where no whitelists are being given out? How did Meowy even get these friends and advisors? This is just the beginning of how far these bots go. But before we get into them more, let's show you guys what real engagement looks like. All the bots we found started tweeting in February of 2022, so we're looking at tweets before the bots came up to use as a sample size. Click HERE for our sample size and the reasoning behind our samples. And here's something to keep in mind - VIEWS DON'T LIE. So when that view/like/reply ratio looks off - it's because bots have targeted that tweet. Here's a memeland giveaway, 35,000 Here's a tweet we botted ourselves. There's replies and 40,000 views - implying 87% 1,000 more likes than views. of people that saw the tweet replied to it. Botted to shit. WHAT REAL ENGAGEMENT LOOKS LIKE Before we get into the bots and their purpose, we're going to show you how to spot botted tweets for yourself using analysis on our sample. REPLY:LIKE Ratio Analysis Out of all of the sample tweets, 3 of them have more replies than likes. This leaves us with only 2 out Two of those can be attributed to a different Twitter format, and don’t fit the sample of 72 sampled tweets having guidelines. 1: Anomaly 1 more replies than likes, the Gave away 25 Whitelists for this Tweet each day for 4 days leading to more replies, not largest outlier had only 1.2% a normal 24 hour giveaway but we’ll leave it in to be nice. more replies than likes. 2: Anomaly 2 Said tag “real friends” which lead to a lot of replies to the comments saying, “you think I’m a real friend?” like they’re in a fuckin Disney movie, so we’re cutting this out. This should be intuitive, giveaway tweets should rarely have more replies than likes because it's easier for real people to like a tweet than reply to it. REPLY:LIKE Ratio Results Mean: .86 St. Dev: .076 So a giveaway tweet having 86 replies per 100 likes is the average. This applies more strongly to tweets with more interactions, since a tweet with 50 likes and 60 replies isn’t that unbelievable. One with 50k likes and 60k replies is a huge red flag. This means there’s around a 3.27% chance of any given solo giveaway tweet having more replies than likes. And a .08% Chance of any given solo giveaway having 10% more replies than likes. So whenever you see a giveaway with 11,000 Replies and 10,000 likes, there’s less than 1 in 1,000 chance of that all being Real Engagement. If it has 20% more replies than likes, There’s a .0003% chance of it not being botted. If a giveaway was 24,000 replies and 20,000 likes, A 1 in 300,000 chance of it not being botted. MORE STATS: A .26% Chance of there being more replies than likes 3 times every 10 tweets. A .01% Chance of it occurring 4 times every 10 tweets. If over half of the solo giveaways for a project that’s had 50 have more replies than likes there’s a less than 1 in 100,000 chance of them not being botted. VIEW:LIKE Ratio Results (REMEMBER THIS) Mean % of likes to views: .079% St. Dev: .027% (This ratio can also be applied to retweets and replies) Any Tweet with over 13.3% Likes to Views - 2.2% Chance of happening Any Tweet with over 16% Likes to Views - .13% Chance of happening Any Tweet with over 25% Likes to Views - Less than a 1 in 1 Million Chance of being organic engagement Now you guys should be able to spot when a tweet is heavily botted with statistically proven results. They count on you thinking 11,000 replies and 10,000 likes seems kind of realistic. It’s not. So when you see tweets like these, you can know statistically that they're insanely botted. How to tell how many bots are on a Tweet We can only really estimate this with giveaway tweets that include videos, so we can check out the views. Let’s use this giveaway as an example: 80,000 views, 43,600 Likes. We'll give them some leeway and say real engagement on this tweet would have a 15% view to like ratio (still insanely rare but we're being generous) So, 80,000 x .15 = 12,000 Real Likes We’ll subtract it from the retweets since those also count as individual engagements. 50,400 - 12,000 = 38,400. 38,400 / 50,400 = 76% At LEAST 76% of all interactions with this tweet are bots, and the reality is likely higher. 38,400 bots at least on one tweet. Now, let’s go through one of our confirmed bots tweets - @PatDelores Here’s a list of their latest 100 retweets: https://pastebin.com/hqaSVa1g Out of 100 Tweets, 68 of them fit into that 3% chance of being over 2 standard deviations away from the mean of real engagement. That’s not counting the ones that’re 3, 4, and 5 deviations off. Giveaways with 30,000 likes and 42,000 replies is not real human behavior. Without taking other things into accounts, let’s see what the odds of 68 out of 100 giveaways being 2 standard deviations off base are: The odds are over 1 in a million before even taking anything else into account. All 68 of those tweets are heavily targeted by bots, and likely the whole 100. You guys probably already knew that was obvious because we’re going through a bots retweets, but at least now you know, the ratios don't lie. Now we're going to see how to find bots in tweets with normal ratios. They're not dumb enough to fuck up ratios everytime, but there's another way to check. They are pretty fucking dumb though since botting views is like 10 cents per 100k. We'll do this by going through @PatDelores tweets where the ratios weren't off. They're obviously still botted because our bot Pat is retweeting them. All these tweets are part of the list @PatDelores retweeted, these are the ones where the ratios aren't off. Click the links. TWEET 1 These are some of the screenshots we got from the tweets, there's more in the links to the right. BOTS Luckily the bots are always clumped together in the likes of a tweet, you just have to scroll and you'll find the clusters. TWEET 2 We see very similar bios of random quotes, adjectives after adjectives, random taylor swift fan bios, retweet BOTS the same tweets as bots next to them in the list of likes, and repeat PFPs. If you look through a botted tweets likes and you'll be able to see the bots easy. TWEET 3 Look through their accounts and timelines. You'll see they only enter giveaways, mainly giveaways that already BOTS have thousands of entrants, most have no tweets, and the ones that do have their own tweets will only have 1 that's usually pinned or some weird inspirational quotes. The bots are in plain sight. TWEET 4 BOTS TWEET 5 BOTS TWEET 6 BOTS TWEET 7 BOTS TWEET 8 BOTS TWEET 9 BOTS "What if these bots are just here to win WL giveaways?" That's what we thought initially, but we'll get into that soon. First, let's show you what real giveaways and accounts look like for reference. We’re using Farokh’s recent giveaways, despite people having mixed feelings on him there’s no evidence of him being implicated in the bot network. It’s crazy that a guy with 300k mostly organic followers like Farokh is barely breaking 3,000 engagements per giveaway when @ryandcrypto is getting 60,000 likes on a tweet, but this what real engagement looks like. The reply to like ratios are off, but that’s due to bots trying to shill their own NFTs and scam in the comments, not engagement bots. It's also nothing compared to what you're going to see. Real People that want to win giveaways: -Don’t parallel the exact tweets of each other. -Don’t only enter giveaways with thousands of engagements -Retweet non-giveaway tweets -Make their own tweets, and don’t just retweet others After seeing that, you guys should be more confident in discerning bots on a tweet. INGRAIN WHAT THESE ACCOUNTS LOOK/ACT LIKE INTO YOUR BRAIN THEY WILL PROVIDE THE FOUNDATION FOR WHAT BOTS ARE So it looks like there's a lot of bots all over NFT Twitter. After we show you how they work, we can show you what they're here to do. Essential Info on Twitter bot accounts -Bot Accounts are rarely shared. Differing proxies when logging into bots causes suspensions, like we saw with Shelby and PatDelores, the bot operators usually keep them all hosted on the same machines with the same consistent proxies to avoid the bots getting banned. -Bot Accounts operate in Networks. There’s programs that allow you to operate tens of thousands of Twitter bots from one computer - so why just operate 100 bots when you can scale up to 100,000 and manage them all from the same place? Some networks have a few thousand bots, some have 100k+. All bots in a network are controlled by the same person/group due to the accounts not being shared to avoid suspension. -Networks are operated by the person/people operating the bots and setting them up. Generally only a handful of people have access to directly mobilizing the bots and sending them on tweets, to help keep the bots IPs stable and avoid bans. On Bot Networks Bot Network: A collection of bots, usually multiple thousands, operated under a singular entity for a specific purpose. Bot networks are what we're going to be focusing on for the most part, because our research is about uncovering the biggest one in the Twitter NFT market. This document is about the reasoning, purpose, and people behind the major NFT bot network. They're made through usually paying for a lot of aged twitter accounts on a site like accsmarket.com or making new ones. Then mass changing their PFPs and bios, warming them up for a little bit, then putting them all into your software with proxies so you can control all of them from a single application on your computer/virtual machine. What a Bot Network Looks Like We looked around for weeks on multiple websites, nulled, cracked.to, ogusers, blackhatworld.com, different Discords, and Telegram groups for days. We could only find ONE publicly available NFT botter. An advertisement for Dmister's NFT botting services on blackhatworld Dmister uses his bot network to sell engagement to NFT projects and help them look hyped, for $100 per 1k likes/rts/replies. We asked if he ever uses his bot network to win Whitelists himself, he said no despite easily being able to do so. NOTE: Dmisters site didn't go live until Mid-July. This botnet was active since February. Lets look at a Tweet we paid Dmister to bot TWEET Most of the engagement in this tweet is obviously bots, and all the bots in it are from the bot network Dmister operates. Let's pick out a few of them (LOOK THROUGH THEIR ACCOUNTS YOURSELF) https://twitter.com/Mfarooq98839277 https://twitter.com/Syedmeh73692470 https://twitter.com/Sarmin47 https://twitter.com/Bonie_Meredith https://twitter.com/Dimas79314362 Again, look through the accounts yourself or you're not going to get it. In that sample of 4 bots we picked, look through their fucking accounts. Their timelines aren't exactly the same, but they all have a lot of tweets in common, and consistently retweet the same projects. The Nightmare Project, Bata Bata, Muggies, Bored Stackers, etc, all use Dmister to bot their projects. We know because we literally paid Dmister to bot our project and those are the bots he sent to it. THIS IS WHAT BOTS IN THE SAME NETWORK LOOK LIKE IF YOU WANT MORE EXAMPLES, LOOK THROUGH ALL THE LIKES IN THE BOTTED TWEET. THEY'RE ALL PROVABLY IN THE SAME BOTNET. • Sometimes they have tweets or a pinned tweet to help avoid being suspended. • Sometimes they don't all retweet the same tweets (a lot of times they do though). • But they DO consistently interact with the same projects and strongly parallel each other. Why do projects use bots? When your tweets have a lot of engagement, it's easier to get collabs. When you get giveaway collabs with pages with real followers, they'll see the 10k retweets on your collab tweet, think your project is hyped, and get involved with it. It's cross-pollination. After enough real people see your super-hyped giveaway tweets on collab accounts, they'll think you have hype, and they'll want to mint. It's a psychology game, they know you all follow hype. Bot Network Example #2 This one isn't publically availabe, and is the only other one we were able to find aside from the major one. The Solana Influencer Network Featuring @NFTJakey, @SolLunix, @voidedsol, @SolanaSenseii, and more. This network obviously uses its bots to promote a group of influencers. The influencers sell paid promotion, projects want promotion, they pay these influencers a few Sol for it and the influencers then bot their tweets to fake engagement so they can sell more promotion. We found the bots in the retweets Some bots from the network: of a @NFTjakey giveaway tweet. Maybe the bots are used to (Now Suspended :/) win sol giveaways? https://twitter.com/xxjay_12 https://twitter.com/chayton_gavin https://twitter.com/darniyankyaw We thought that was a https://twitter.com/eugig_rose https://twitter.com/RazerOp15 possibility, but look through https://twitter.com/Jahangir9734 their tweets & replies. All the giveaways they enter require tagging friends in the replies. None of them ever tag friends, and they exclusively interact with the same people. Again, go through those bots pages, and look for bots from the network in tweets like these. See for yourself so you can make your own opinions. Again, THIS IS WHAT SOLANA INFLUENCER BOTS LOOK LIKE. Real Giveaway Winner Bots We can assume that in the world of Crypto and Twitter, there would be real giveaway bots that show up who's purpose is to win giveaways and monetize that. The thing is, these bots wouldn't solely relegate themselves to NFT whitelist giveaways when that makes up maybe 5% of the overall giveaway market. You'd want to hit every giveaway possible, in every niche, and if you ran a botnet focused on winning giveaways - you'd know there was more to win than just NFT whitelists. They don't want to waste time trying to win giveaways for NFT whitelists - which cost money, and can lose them money, when they can just go for solely cash giveaways and reduce the risk and complication of going for random whitelists. It means a project that only one project that paid for promotion from one of the SOL influencers, also used Dmister's bot network. The lack of intersection is insane, since there's no reason they couldn't do both. Point being, there's a shit ton of new NFTs every month all in their own world. Around all 180 of those projects are from the last 2 months. We will compare these to the real botnet projects to get an in-depth look later. Those are small samples of the bots, but look through the likes + retweets of the tweets we sent to get 100's more. All the users of the Solana Influencer network sell promotion on their page, new NFTs see they have good engagement, they bot the engagement, and it helps them sell promo tweets to unaware projects. Giveaway bots/enterers look COMPLETELY different from Hype bots, and span the entire crypto ecosystem, not just NFTs. Congratulations! Now you know what Twitter bot networks look like and how to identify them. You can find a bot network by going through a tweets likes, finding similar bot accounts in a row, and seeing the projects they consistently interact with. Now let's go over some facts -There's only 1 publically available NFT botter selling services that's accessible. (DMister) -In the 2 networks we found, both are using their bots exclusively for engagement, not to win whitelists. -Multiple NFT projects and influencers use bots for engagement, proven off those 2 networks alone. -We can discern bots in a network through the projects they interact with. Fun Fact: The reason the bots tweets don't match up exactly is because you're not going to send every bot to every tweet. If you have 10,000 bots, sometimes you send 500 to one tweet, 2,000 to another, 4,000 to another, etc. Leading to different twitter feeds of bots in the same network, but still leaving obvious parralels. INTERMISSION YOU NEED TO KNOW: SINCE A LOT OF OLD BOTS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED, LIKES AND RETWEETS OF BOTTED TWEETS FELL OFF. TWITTER, HOWEVER DOESN'T LET THE REPLIES FALL OFF - SO WHEN YOU SEE WAY MORE REPLIES THAN LIKES/RTS FROM A TWEET FROM A FEW MONTHS AGO, YOU KNOW FOR A FACT IT WAS BOTTED. The one to the right has 100K more replies than likes, so we can safely say someone send 100K bots to it, that later got suspended. AND REMEMBER, YOU CAN EASILY DEDUCT BOT PRESENCE FROM THE VIEWS:REPLIES. IF YOU SEE EVEN 20% AS MANY REPLIES AS VIEWS, YOU CAN SAY FOR NEARLY A FACT IT'S BOTTED. REMEMBER THESE METRICS, WE'LL BE USING THEM TO SAVE TIME. Now let's show you the big fish network that really runs things. Check out these 2 tweets from these hyped projects. Trippin' Ape Tribe & Great Goats Link Link (Likes have dropped to 23K since screenshot) (Likes have dropped to 34K since screenshot) I don't know about you but I don't think 10's of thousands of people went back a few weeks later to unlike that tweet. Both of those tweets had around the same amount of replies, about 5% off from each other, but let's look at the crazy part. These whitelist giveaways, that ONLY required a RT+Like - NO TAGS, both got 70,000 replies tagging their friends. Real people don't do that. Almost all of those replies are bots, and they're from the same network. These tweets are doing bigger numbers than Imaginary Ones, Invisible Friends, Project PXN, Azuki, Moonbirds, and any other projects have ever done. These posts got more likes and retweets than the BAYC Metaverse reveal trailer with 3 MILLION VIEWS, and AGAIN, replies weren't even a requirement for the giveaway. It's not adding up. Are they here for whitelists? That's doesn't add up much, because these giveaways shortly after those ones didn't do anywhere near the numbers. They're sending way more bots to the projects personal pages than to giveaways with the same amount of whitelists being given away. The bots being here for whitelists isn't really making sense. Giveaway 1 Giveaway 2 Giveaway 3 Giveaway 4 Giveaway 5 Giveaway 6 Giveaway 7 And lets look at those View:Like ratios Lets be generous again and assume 12% of the views converted into real likes. 150k views x 12% = 18,000 Real Likes 58,600 - 18,000 = 40,600 40,600 / 58,600 = 70% of the engagements on this tweet are bots, if not more. They sent minimum 40,000 bots to a Trippin' Ape giveaway with 5 Whitelists. And barely sent nearly as much, to a Karafuru giveaway a few days earlier (an established project), giving away 3 Whitelists. And the 70k replies + likes Trippin' Ape giveaway from 2 pages above, got 8x the likes as the Karafuru giveaway to the left that happened 3 days before it. Both were giving away 3 Whitelists. If you're trying to make money from whitelists, this just doesn't add up. Why would a project that came out of nowhere be more worth botting than an established one - especially when you make up at least 75% of the bots. They all have a weird bio, a similar amount of tweets, and they all engage with the same tweets and projects, they all targeted Great Goats and Trippin' Apes. This is a cluster from THE Bot Network that's been running shit. Get acquainted with it. Their media is interesting too, but we'll get into that another time. We've established that Great Goats and Trippin' Apes benefit from the same bot network, and it's not making a lot of sense that they're being botted for whitelists. If you're still unconvinced it's one network, find bots yourself on the tweets we've linked earlier. They all interact with the same projects. We asked Dmister, someone who bots NFTs for engagements for a living, what he thought about it. So the one reachable NFT botter believes they're "100% botter" (lol), they're botting for engagement, it's a private network, and that the same people are botting the other projects in the bot accounts timelines. Essentially, thinks it's an exclusive network used to artificially inflate projects from behind the scenes. Damn. Let's Consider Our Options Multiple Bot Networks -Trippin’ Apes and Great Goats both contacted multiple bot networks. -They somehow found all the same botting providers, despite none of them being publicly available on any sites or forums, and despite using multiple engagement botters did not include Dmister in the list of people they got bots from. -None of these bot network owners decided to publically sell their services for money. -They got nearly the exact same likes, favorites, and replies on certain giveaways despite using multiple different bot providers with various capacities and timelines and the two projects not being directly connected at all. -They never stopped using the bots from the providers that kept fucking up the amount of replies, like we see in this giveaway here: https://twitter.com/memeland/status/1522610588861575168? s=20&t=G1Dz3BtmpJIetUdrzLGfAw. For reference, none of the tweets Dmister bots ever have replies that fucked up, they never over 2% of the likes. This would mean that either all of their separate botters fuck up the replies, or they never stopped using the botters that consistently overdo the replies, despite it looking super unrealistic. -All these bots have a nearly identical history of the projects and influencers they bot, and none of these MULTIPLE bot networks EVER intersected with ANY of the projects in the Dmister network. NONE of this list of projects EVER solicited bots from the one semi-publically available botter, despite them using multiple other bot networks. *There are some Trippin' Ape giveaways botted by Dmister, but they're fake giveaways from fake influencers trying to get engagement, not real Trippin' Ape giveaways. We repeat: -The chance that there are multiple bot networks, all private, and none of the projects benefitting from these multiple bot networks have EVER solicited Dmister, the only publicly available easily accessible botter, for bots. (There is no intersection whatsoever between projects using Dmister and the projects being botted by these other networks.) OR One Network -It being one network is the reason all the bots engage with the same projects and tweets. -It being one huge network is the reason none of the projects using it ever needed Dmister. -It being one network is the reason why all the reply/like ratios are consistently fucked up. -An opportunist/s saw how much money there was in making a huge network of bots for NFT Twitter. -They scaled their operation up over time to make more money, which is why we see more bots now than in January 2022 when they first started popping up, and now see Great Goats able to hit 100k+ likes on a tweet. -They used this network to control the hype of specific projects and influencers that had access to it, which is why we see all their bots engage with the same people and projects consistently and never stray off of it. In Layman's Terms If you have 3 plugs, and plug 1 & 2 always have the same strains, in the same quantity, and have been getting the same strains at the same times for the past 5 months. And plug number 3 has NEVER had ANY of the same strains, but they keep asking you if you know where to buy them. Then you can assume plug 1 & 2 have the same ONE private supplier. And it'd be dumb to think they just happen to keep buying the same strains at the same times from multiple different suppliers coincidentally - because what are the odds plug 3 doesn’t know about a single one of them? REPEAT: WE WILL BE USING REPLY/LIKE DISCREPANCIES AS EVIDENCE OF BOTTING When bots get suspended, the likes + retweets drop off. The Replies STAY THE SAME. So when we see a lot of replies, and a lot less likes, we KNOW there were bots there. In the case of this tweet, 100,000 bots. This will save us from having to post bots on every single tweet individually, which is a waste of time since the proof is in the replies.
