Day 1 - @little_crochet_makes Written in UK Terms MR - magic ring Ch - chain Tr - treble crochet Ss - slip stitch St/sts - stitch/stitches Dc - double crochet Htr - half treble crochet Fo - fasten off What you will need: Knitcraft cotton blend in pale blue, white, pink, purple, denim blue, teal, yellow, mustard and coral 5mm hook 4mm hook Tapestry needle Scissors Solid Granny Square Rnd 1: Using pale blue and a 5mm hook, MR, ch3 (counts as a tr here and throughout) 2tr in centre ring, *ch3, 3tr into ring; repeat from * twice more, ch3, join with ss in top of ch3. Pull tail to close the circle tight. (12 tr, 4 ch3) Rnd 2: Ch3, tr in next 2 sts, *[2tr, ch3, 2tr] into corner space, tr in each st to corner space; repeat from * twice more, [2tr, ch3, 2tr] into corner space, join with ss in top of ch 3. (28 tr, 4 ch3) Rnd 3: Ch3, tr in each st to corner st, *[2tr, ch3, 2tr] into corner space, tr in each st to corner space; repeat from * twice more, [2tr, ch3, 2tr] into corner space, tr in each st to end or round, join with ss in top of ch3. (44 tr, 4 ch3) Rnds 4 – 7: Continue to repeat rnd 3, increasing each round by 16 sts. FO. (108 tr, 4 ch3 after rnd 7) Border Attach white yarn to any st, ch1 (doesn’t count as a st), dc into the st at base of the ch1, dc in each st to the next corner space, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) into corner space, dc in each st to the next corner space; repeat from * three more times, and finish when you reach end of round, join with ss in top of the first dc. FO and sew in ends Rainbow FO at end of each row. Row 1: Using pink and a 4mm hook, ch14, 2htr in third ch from hook, htr in next 3 ch, [2htr in next ch, htr in next 3 ch] twice. (15 htr) Row 2: Change to purple, ch2 (does not count as st throughout), turn, [2htr in next st, htr in next 4 htr] 3 times. (18 htr) Row 3: Change to denim blue, ch2, turn, [2htr in next st, htr in next 5 htr] 3 times. (21 htr) Row 4: Change to teal, ch2, turn, [2htr in next st, hdc in the next 6 htr] 3 times. (24 htr) Row 5: Change to yellow, ch2, turn, [2htr in next st, hdc in the next 7 htr] 3 times. (27 htr) Row 6: Change to mustard, ch2, turn, [2htr in next st, hdc in the next 8 htr] 3 times. (30 htr) Row 7: Change to coral, ch2, turn, [2htr in next st, hdc in the next 9 htr] 3 times. (33 htr) FO and sew in ends. Clouds (make 6) Using white and a 4mm hook, MR, ch1 (doesn’t count as a st here or throughout). Rnd 1: 6 dc into the centre ring, ss into first dc to join, pull tail to close the circle tight. (6 dc) Rnd 2: Ch1, 2dc into the base of the ch, 2dc in each st around, ss into the first dc to join. FO and sew in ends. (12 dc) How to put together If required, block your square and applique patterns. Once dry and blocked into shape, using the pale blue yarn and a darning needle, sew the rainbow applique into place, stitching through the granny square and into the back of the htr st, all around the rainbow. Stitch the clouds along the base of the rainbow, placing the middle cloud circle overlapping the other two on either side.
