MUSIC, ART & PROGRAMMING PROJECTS Bas Ekkelenkamp Portfolio Technology (2019 - 2023) Finished bachelor: Creative Media & Game Technologies My interest in synthesis also weirdly sparked an interest into programming. In 2019 I started my Bachelors Creative Media & Game Technologies and learned not only about the technical side of programming, but also about human centred design, and the ethical side of technology. During my college career I have conducted research about the influence of technology on how we express ourselves in art, and about ever changing digital privacy. I have also carried out lots of solo projects, like the personal trainer AI that uses an AI algorithm to recognise body positions, or the Musicmixer that extracts musical data and uses it to find accurate recommendations with the Spotify API. I love coding, especially the backend side. Watch highlights of my favourite projects below. Github Project highlights.. I gained lots of technical responsibility for a very large AI application that helps real estate companies automating their email traffic, using backend languages like PHP and Python. I conducted an extensive research into the technical problems of the digital museum The Lighthouse of Berlin. It's a web game that turns the (evergrowing) collection of genres documented on spotify into a fun and competitive game. With a live leaderboards and different gamemodes like realtime multiplayer, I learned so much about different types of web technology and gamification. Play it below! genreguesser.app Music Start of ‘Cobra Unit’ (2018) I started practising art in digital form in 2016 under the name ‘333AK’, when I joined an art rap collective as a producer & engineer with some friends in Rotterdam. We created experimental, reverberated music using auto tune, together with heavy bass inspired by underground rap from the USA. We had two vocalists, multiple producers and three members that made visual art, alongside our music. We called ourselves “Cobra Unit”. Our youtube has nice highlights. We also organised some live shows and expos in Rotterdam. Youtube Bandcamp Spotify Experimental solo projects (2018 - ongoing) I started gaining interest in synthesis, and saved some money to buy myself some analog synthesizers and really involved myself into learning the art of synthesis & audio design. I started creating more solo works, really trying to focus on innovating & experimenting with my sound and trying to express myself through music. In november 2021, I released my latest full length album titled “Drowning”. I have spent years on this project, and it has become very personal to me. I think it is much more profound and experimental than anything I had done before, combining a lot of different elements from ambient, noise, electronic and more into a heavy conceptual album, using analog synthesizers and drum machines with guitar pedals. I learned how to create live visuals with code alongside music, using a technique called “livecoding”. I have created my fair share of audio reactive visuals, and I have also collaborated with some friends to create some more audio visual works. Watch my visuals on youtube linked below. Youtube Motion, an audio visual project If there's one project I'd like you to watch, it's the video for my song titled ‘Motion’. It's a collaborative work where the visuals have been generated live. It uses various kinds of inputs like midi & frequency data of the audio, that the visual organically reacts to. It is my favourite project. Watch ‘Motion’ here!
