When in battle, how do you handle or respond to it? 3. Billy Graham said, “The greatest battier to knowing God’s will is simply that we want to run our own lives. Our problem is that a battle is going on in our hearts, a battle between our will and God’s will”. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 7. What was the cultural dynamic of Abram’s day? Where did people gravitate to? Who was in positions of authority? How were cities arranged? What brought about conflict between people/cities? How was war/warfare viewed? How was it executed? How was the victor rewarded? How did this impact cities/communities? Families? • How is war/warfare viewed in our country? Other countries? How is he different from the King of Sodom? Where is Salem? What does it eventually become? Who does he follow and worship? What are some ways that he is viewed by theologians? Is this Christ? What is typology? How is Melchizedek a type of Christ? How does he point towards Christ? How is he viewed/articulated in the New Testament? • What is your understanding of Melchizedek? Who do you think he is? Explain. 5. What does Melchizedek do for Abram? How did he bless him? What was the blessing? What is the significance of this? What does Abram give Melchizedek? When was the first tithe in scripture? Why did Abram do this? Was this something that was required? What does the King of Sodom say to Abram? What does Abram say in response? What is going on here? Who is Abram exalting and praising? Does the king of Sodom do this? Does he recognize who gave the victory? How does their different response demonstrate their attitude and heart? • Do you praise God for the victories in your life? Have you ever given yourself the recognition?
