CAIT Comprehensive Adult Intelligence Test Equs Version 1.0 (11/22/2021) Introduction Welcome to the Comprehensive Adult Intelligence Test (CAIT). The aim of project CAIT is to provide a free resource for estimating a full scale IQ (FSIQ) score for adults interested in cognitive testing. The CAIT is designed for individuals over the age of 16. The CAIT is inspired by and formatted to resemble the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS). Overall, the goal is to provide a similar but streamlined experience that can estimate FSIQ in a timely manner. Estimating FSIQ across a diverse range of test batteries is the best way to estimate the g factor, or general factor of intelligence. Most online IQ tests concentrate on measuring a single factor. The CAIT is designed to provide a more comprehensive view of general intelligence by testing multiple factors. The CAIT is an opened ended project that will be updated over time to make it more accurate and more comprehensive. If you have taken the WAIS professionally and decide to take the CAIT, please submit your scores to u/EqusB to help improve this test. Disclaimer The CAIT is not a substitute for a professional IQ test. Scores obtained using the CAIT, if taken correctly, are designed to give an accurate estimation of FSIQ. However, the CAIT is not a diagnostic tool and cannot be used in any capacity other than as an informative tool. Individuals seeking a diagnosis or comprehensive psychological report should be tested by a professional. The CAIT is designed for native English speakers and adults over the age of 16. Non-native English speakers cannot receive an accurate Verbal Comprehension Index. Individuals under the age of 16 cannot receive an accurate IQ score. CAIT Sources and Acknowledgements The vocabulary items were taken from a SAT Verbal section from 1985. The general knowledge items were taken from a 2013 battery standardized on American college students. Visual Puzzles and Figure weights were created by hand with several items inspired by material from the WAIS. Digit span and Symbol search were designed to mimic the formatting of the WAIS as closely as possible. A special thank you goes out to u/MelerEcckmanLawler on Reddit for automating the Digit span and Symbol search subtests. Your hard work is invaluable to this community. An additional thank you goes out to all of the participants in the preliminary data collection stage. CAIT would not be possible without those that volunteered their cognitive testing history and time. CAIT Test Structure Verbal Comprehension Index 1. Vocabulary – 10 Minutes 2. General Knowledge – 10 Minutes Perceptual Reasoning Index 3. Visual Puzzles – 13 Minutes 4. Figure Weights – 12 Minutes Cognitive Proficiency Index 5. Digit Span (Working Memory) – X Minutes 6. Symbol Search (Processing Speed) – 2 Minutes Test Time: Approximately 1 Hour Instructions Each index subtest is listed separately on the following pages. Each subtest can be taken separately at your leisure. CAIT is designed to be taken on a monitor. Do not take this test on a cellphone. Failure to adhere to this may invalidate your test result. No outside resources are allowed at any point during this test. Pencils, paper, calculator, google, etc, are NOT ALLOWED. The use of any outside resources invalidates your test result. Please follow the instructions for each subtest carefully. Failure to adhere to the instructions will invalidate the test result. When finished, please record your raw score and or the reported scaled score. You will need to use your raw scores to determine the scaled score for each subtest. Once you have finished all of the subtests, use the tables provided in this document and follow the instructions to determine your IQ score for each index, as well as a general ability score and full scale IQ score. Test 1 - Vocabulary This subtest is 10 minutes long and has 31 items. The goal is to look at the bolded word at the top and choose the word from the list that means the OPPOSITE of that word. You are looking for the ANTONYM of the word in question. Move quickly and do not spend overly long on any question, though do not rush, as correct answers are more important than speed. Most people have more than enough time to finish the test. It is important to consider each option before answering, as you must select the answer that is the MOST opposite of the word in question. As the questions become more challenging, you may be required to distinguish between finer shades of meaning. There is always only one correct answer to each question. Try the following example before starting: TOUGH a) Neatly garbled b) Quietly stated c) Greatly improved d) Easily chewed e) Extremely clean Answer: D. Easily chewed means the opposite of TOUGH. Open the link when you are ready to begin. https://www.classmarker.com/online-test/start/?quiz=qvn61891db3c51ff Test 2 - General Knowledge This subtest is 10 minutes long and has 32 items. Your goal is to fill in the blank and answer the question. Focus on correctly answering questions and do not rush. However, try to spend no more than 20-30 seconds on any question. Answer rules: 1. Answers will always be a SINGLE WORD WITH NO SPACES OR HYPHENS ETC. E.g. the answer would NEVER be close-up (hyphenated) or a full name such as Benjamin Franklin (the answer would be Benjamin OR Franklin). 2. Answers will always be in LOWER CASE. 3. This is not a spelling test; multiple spellings are accepted. In an event that you make a typo, you are allowed to manually add the point to your total. Each question is worth 1 point. Please check your answers when finished to insure you receive the correct score. If you were able to pronounce the correct answer you receive full value. Try the following examples: WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE LONG SLEEP SOME ANIMALS GO THROUGH DURING THE ENTIRE WINTER? Answer: hibernation WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE RUBBER OBJECT THAT IS HIT BACK AND FORTH BY HOCKEY PLAYERS? Answer: puck Open the link when you are ready to begin. https://www.classmarker.com/online-test/start/?quiz=4jp61871b3649540 Test 3 - Visual Puzzles This subtest is 13 minutes long and contained 31 items. This test is required to be taken on a monitor. Slow loading times on phone and difficulty viewing items will invalidate the results. Select the 3 options that combine to make the shape at the top without overlapping. The answer MUST be three; no less, no more. You will only receive value for selecting all three correct options. The pieces may be rotated in 360 degrees. Example: Answer: 2 4 6 Try the examples inside the link before starting. https://www.classmarker.com/online-test/start/?quiz=vbj5fe916a2cd596 Test 4 - Figure Weights This subtest is 12 minutes long and contains 26 items. This test is required to be taken on a monitor. Slow loading times on phone and difficulty viewing items will invalidate the results. Your goal is to determine which figures are equivalent in weight and will subsequently balance the scale when placed in the question mark box on the right. This is a timed test and your goal is to move as quickly as possible between questions while being accurate. Do not rush, but do not dawdle either. Accuracy will trump speed on this test. This test has a very high ceiling and it is unlikely that you will finish the test. It is normal to not finish, and it is possible to achieve an extremely high score without finishing. RANDOM GUESSING IS NOT ALLOWED. You are, of course, allowed to make calculated guesses based on your best estimates of the question. However, random guesses without attempting to solve the problem will not be rewarded any points. Therefore, the correct strategy is to utilize all of your time trying to SOLVE the problem at hand. Do not randomly fill in the answers as you begin to run low on time. Example: Answer: 1 Try the examples inside the link before starting. https://www.classmarker.com/online-test/start/?quiz=6b45ff209f547a23 Test 5 - Digit Span This is a test of memory. Your memory will be tested by having you listen to a series of numbers and requiring you to recall them. In this test, you should listen to the auditory digit prompts and type the numbers that you hear in the response box. This test requires speakers and you will need to be able to hear clearly. Remember that no resources are allowed during CAIT and you can only rely on your memory. This test may take 10 to 15 minutes depending on your response speed. Three tests will be administered in a row: 1. Digits Forward 2. Digits Backwards 3. Digits in Sequence When ready, proceed to the link and listen carefully. Additionally, please insert your age and record the Scaled Score at the bottom when you are finished. https://wais-iv-digit-span-00667a.netlify.app/ Test 6 - Symbol Search This is a test of speed. Above all else, your goal in this subtest is to go as fast as you possibly can without making errors. You will be deducted points for making errors, so never guess the answer and do not respond faster than you can determine the answer. The objective is to determine whether or not ONE of the two symbols on the left side is in the list of symbols and click on it. There can only be either ONE or ZERO symbols in the list. If the symbol is NOT in the list, click NO. *Note: ONLY YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT AT THIS TEST COUNTS. Any additional attempts beyond your first attempt do not count. As such, make sure you are fully focused and in a quiet space before starting. Follow the instructions inside the link below and try the two examples before starting. Additionally, please insert your age and record the Scaled Score at the bottom when you are finished. https://wais-iv-symbol-search-f568d4.netlify.app/ Normalization Tables *Note: All subtest 90% confidence intervals are approximately +-2 Scaled Score (SS) Vocabulary Use the table and record your scaled score based on raw score. This is in part because the Vocabulary subtest uses SAT and GRE V items that I have already analyzed extensively on other tests. It is safe to assume that the correlation between WAIS Vocabulary and CAIT Vocabulary is > r = 0.7 and that Cronbach’s alpha is ~0.9. Visual Puzzles Statistics Simple scatter comparing CAIT Raw score with WAIS Visual Puzzles SS Reliability Statistics N=25 Cronbach's Alpha N of Items .892 31 Figure Weights Statistics Simple scatter comparing CAIT Raw score with WAIS Figure Weights SS Reliability Statistics N=26 Cronbach's Alpha N of Items .915 26 *Note: Figure Weights data was confounded somewhat due to several factors. The time limit for the FW subtest was adjusted somewhat during testing. Additionally, unlike the other subtests, I was unable to acquire many professionally proctored FW scores. Most of the scores are either proctored over discord or self-proctored. Given that FW is not a core WAIS subtest, this is unsurprising. FAQ • Classmarker is out of credits. How do I take CAIT? Unfortunately, you will have to either wait for another month or until I release the PDF version. Alternatively, if I’m fortunate enough to get some help, I may automate the test outside of CM. • Will you add more subtests in the future? That is likely. If I do create a more comprehensive version with additional subtests, I will still leave this version in circulation as it is extremely rapid. • Why didn’t you use a Matrix reasoning test? One reason was to minimize test taking time. Another was that matrix reasoning tests are extremely common on the internet and I felt the use of more novel test types would be beneficial. • Are you still collecting data? Yes! If you have data from an administration of the WAIS, please send me your WAIS results so I can add them to the data collection. • The result I got on this test is completely different than what I got on other tests. If taken properly, the results on the CAIT correlate strongly with results on the WAIS. I cannot speak to correlations with other tests. However, please see the 90% confidence intervals listed in this document. 5-10% of test takers will get a result that is anomalous. This is expected. IQ tests are not perfect and there are many reasons some individuals may receive an unusual or unrepresentative score. If your WAIS results were radically different than your CAIT results, see Q4. • Do you need help updating CAIT? I am always open to collaboration, and anyone interested in contributing material or automation to the CAIT should contact me (EqusB) on reddit. Thank you to everyone that collaborated in the creation of this test. An additional thank you goes out to u/MelerEcckmanLawler. I hope CAIT was enjoyable and informative.
