Albert Mohler said, “Today’s church can’t remain faithful if it tolerates false teachers and leaves their teachings uncorrected and unconfronted”. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 5. Billy Graham said, “The feet of the Christian need to tread the narrow path that the Savior trod, keeping in step with Him”. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 6. Looking back at your notes from this week’s sermon, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you? DIGGING DEEPER 1. What is your understanding of Matthew 7:13-14? Is this exclusively about salvation? Is it physical? Spiritual? Both? Eternal? Temporal? Both? Explain. What is the destination of the wide gate? How does the path with the wide gate become more constricting and narrower? What are the end results? How does the path with the narrow gate begin to expand and bring life, fullness, and abundance? Which path is easier to follow? • What path are you taking? Is it leading to life or destruction? Are you experiencing destruction, anger, worry, broken relationships, isolation, etc. or peace, joy, patience, life, intimacy, and healthy relationships? How can you change paths if you are going in the wrong direction? • Are your choices experiencing positive or negative consequences? What are some ways that we ensure that our choices are godly? How do we avoid making the wrong choice/s? 2. How often does scripture warn against false teachers? What are the dangers of listening and following a false teacher? How can you recognize a false teacher? What are they doing or not doing? What are some modern examples of this? What does their fruit look like? • What expectation does God have of anyone that would seek to be a teacher? Does God have a different standard for teachers? If so, what is it? How will they be held accountable? Who should they be pointing people to? If it is not Jesus, what value does it have? • What voices are you listening to? Are any of them deceptive or destructive? Who are the biggest voices in your life? Who has the most influence on you? What are they saying? How are they conducting their life? Is it honoring to God? Are they pointing you to Jesus or something else? Is Jesus foundational or an additive? What fruit are you bearing? 3. What is your understanding of Matthew 7:21-23? Who is Jesus referring to? Can you do things in the name of Jesus and not belong to Him? Are the signs that are being performed real or a facade? Explain. • How do we know that we are a believer? What do we receive at the moment of salvation? How is the Holy Spirit the sign and seal of our spiritual adoption into God’s family? Are you bearing any fruit? If so, what kind? Are you doing the will of God? Explain. 4. What have been your biggest takeaways with the Sermon on the Mount? What has challenged you the most? What has God been teaching you?
