Throughout the day Join the Heritage Ranger in the Dig for Victory garden to learn why growing your own vegetables became so important during the war. Visit the V2 rocket engine and see some of the damage that these bombs wrecked on the Becontree Estate. Learn about John O’Leary and his role in evacuating children from the area. Hop aboard the Home Front Bus to experience a reconstruction of a 1940’s living room, shop, bombed out street and air raid shelter, complete with the sights, sounds and smells of the Home Front. Discover a series of displays in the Local Studies Centre that detail wartime incidents that are recorded within our archive collection.
