Together, let us shape the future of HR in our community and beyond, and create a more productive and fulfilling workplace for all. 3 Our Conference Hosts Monique Akanbi, PHR, SHRM-CP Monique is a very familiar face at Big Bend SHRM and remembered as a past president who made a huge impact on our chapter. Monique served as president from 2019 to 2020, serving a total of 9 years on the Board of Directors. Monique’s unique ability to innovate helped Big Bend SHRM thrive during these challenging years, never missing a beat when the world went virtual. Monique now serves as a Field Services Director for SHRM. Miriam Watkins Miriam joined Big Bend SHRM over 20 years ago! She quickly got engaged and served eight consecutive years on the Board in various capacities, including president in 2010. Miriam is still involved in Big Bend SHRM and chaired the sponsor committee (like a BOSS) for this year’s Katrina Lee, SHRM-CP Katrina is our most recent past president, serving as president last year. She has served on the Big Bend SHRM Board of Directors for the past 10 years in many different capacities. Katrina continues to serve in a leadership role with Big Bend SHRM and was instrumental in planning this year’s conference. She is the Chief People Officer at 7G Environmental Compliance Management. Suzanne Hudson, PHR, SHRM-CP Suzanne has served in many leadership roles at Big Bend SHRM over the past 15 years, notably as HR Tallahassee conference chair in 2015 and 2016. She served as the Big Bend SHRM president in 2019. She is currently employed at the Institute for Intergovernmental Research where she oversees the HR function as Director of Human Resources. Liz Murphy, SHRM-CP Liz served as the president of Big Bend SHRM in 2021. Prior to becoming president, Liz served on the Board of Directors for four years. Her leadership was transformational and allowed us the organization we follow today! She currently serves as the Vice President for Workforce Innovation at Tallahassee Community College (TCC). In the position of Vice President, she is responsible for developing strategic solutions that address the needs of employers and those seeking to enter or advance in the workforce. Prior to joining TCC, she served as the Chief Executive Officer of WORKFORCE plus, the regional economic and workforce development body. Ms. Moore is a graduate of Tallahassee Community College with an Associate of Arts degree. She continued her education at The Florida State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and continued on to earn her M.B.A from Webster University and a Doctorate from The Florida State University. John Baldino President, Humareso With 30 years of human resources experience, John’s passion of setting contributors and companies up for success is still going strong. About the speaker Keith Bowers As the Director of the Office of Economic Vitality for the Tallahassee/Leon County metropolitan area, Keith Bowers coordinates the activities of a team of economic development professionals focused on developing programs and initiatives that advance the community as a hub for economic competitiveness while simultaneously leveraging ideas, innovations, and intellectual capital through the continuous coordination of the community’s economic development partners. Session Description In this DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) session, “Breaking Barriers”, we will explore best practices for creating a more inclusive workplace, as well as debunking myths and roadblocks that often hinder progress in this area. We will discuss the importance of creating an environment where all employees feel welcome, valued, and supported, regardless of their background, identity, or perspective. By the end of this session, participants will have a better understanding of the importance of DEI in the workplace, gain practical tools and strategies for creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all employees, and be equipped to overcome common myths and roadblocks that can hinder progress in this area. About the speaker Servola Frazier Servola Frazier is the leader of a cutting-edge training and development company in Orlando, Florida. She has over 20 years of business and entrepreneurial experience which includes training, development, motivational speaking, coaching, and mentoring human resources professionals. Servola is the founder of Women CAMP, a woman-to-woman empowerment community that helps women position themselves to live their dreams. Through Women CAMP, she hosts a radio broadcast centered on women’s issues where she invites women to join important conversations. She also hosts three major events annually where women gather to inspire each other to reach their potential. About the speakers Brian Smatt Brian is an HR Administrator for the City of Tallahassee in Human Resources & Workforce Development overseeing Recruitment & Engagement. Brian joined the City in 2006 with Parks and Recreation and since 2019, he has led an Employee Engagement team responsible for the city’s training and organizational development, health/wellness, rewards and recognition, internship, and other various HR programs; and in 2022, he was given the responsibility of the city’s recruiting efforts. Recently, the health and wellness program was recognized as an Elite winner of the Nation’s Best and Brightest in Wellness for the second consecutive year. Originally from South Florida, he earned his MPA and BS from Florida International University. He enjoys all sports, especially his South Florida teams! His wife, April, also works in HR for Florida State University, and they have a 10 year- old daughter. Heather Fuselier Heather earned her nickname “Healthy Heather” from her enthusiasm to help everyone around her to connect with the elements of their lives that enables them to sustain balance in health and wellbeing. As a National Board Certified Health Coach and Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist, Heather brings over 15 years of coaching and professional wellbeing experience to organizations to help them support employees through worksite wellness initiatives. Heather is a Health Advisor for Sentry Health, working with individuals to help them create and sustain healthy lifestyles, and a licensed provider of the Am I Hungry? Mindful Eating Program. She is a frequent presenter and podcast guest, with expertise in value-based goal setting. 10 MORNING BREAKOUT SESSION - ROOM 205 Managing Personality Differences Session Description Every part of the work we do shares one thing in common: people are a key factor. ($81 value). About the speaker Lorna Kibbey Lorna Kibbey speaks, consults, and strategizes with leaders to effectively focus on their most precious (and challenging) resource: people! Lorna’s first memory of her passion for leadership is from her kindergarten year. She managed to convince her classmates to stand on top of their desks while the teacher was out of the room! Since that day she has become a leadership expert through study, education, and practice. She has experienced leadership in many roles, and educated and inspired leaders worldwide. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Capital City Youth Development Corporation (CCYDC) – a local nonprofit established in 2003 to inspire excellence and propel youth to be the best versions of themselves through education, community service, and training.
