Losers enter a second, parallel bracket and the winner of that bracket reaches the final of the overall tournament. In theory a wrestler can lose their first round match, then win all of their subsequent matches and emerge as the tournament’s overall winner. Just over a week ago at GCG Golden Spirit, iconic US wrestler made his debut in GCG shortly before GCG legend Sadaharu Jimbo returned from a 10 month hiatus to prevent Dick and Dissent laying waste to GCG World Heavyweight champion Yoshinaka Toshusai. Dick, Jimbo and Toshusai will take part in the Champions Climax tournament. They are joined by 13 other wrestlers including Yoshifusa Maeda and Kazu Yoshizawa who failed to capture the GCG World Tag Team titles at Golden Spirit and claimed they had fully disbanded as a tag team. The likes of Genei Konda, Hayate Hasegawa, Harumi Shinomori and Jin Sakamoto are all candidates to win the Champions Climax. Hayate Hasegawa and Mike Barstow kicked off the GCG Champions Climax tournament with a good match where Hasegawa looked incredible. He won with a Shining Wizard. Still suffering from a fractured wrist, Kazu Yoshizawa couldn’t avenge the GCG World Tag Team title loss against his opponent Jin Sakamoto who pinned him with a Jack-Knife Powerbomb. Golden Guard teammates Shinomori and Cho met in the first round. The bigger and more experienced Shinomori defeated his lightweight tag partner with a Kodachi Clutch submission. Genei Konda VS Viktor Molatov Dick the Devastator’s beatdown and replacement of Viktor Molatov sent shockwaves through GCG and Molatov had the opportunity of getting swift revenge on the American if he could defeat Konda and reach the next round. Further progress in the competition could see him return to the title picture after his loss to Yoshinaka Toshusai at GCG Golden Spirit. Konda, on the other hand, was floundering. A good performance alongside Hasegawa in the Golden Tag League bore scant rewards and the Champions Climax was a perfect chance to reassert himself in the title picture. Molatov was ragged and angrier than ever. Konda used this to his advantage, running circles around the bigger man. Molatov couldn’t connect with his trademark Soviet Sickle and fell foul of the Golden Elbow which put Konda into the next round. Konda: 94 In an exceptional match, Genei Konda defeated Viktor Molatov in 81 28:58 28:58 by pinfall with a Golden Elbow. Molatov: 76 GCG Champions Climax 1977 Days 1-2 GCG Champions Climax 1977 Day #2 8,256 67 Okayama (Chugoku) 1. 62 In a decent match, 10 Punch Buck Winslow, Danger Kumasaka and Dissent defeated Hiroyasu Gakusha, Ujiaki Honda, Fumiyo Yoshimatsu and Billy Sanderson in 17:38 when Danger Kumasaka submitted Billy Sanderson with an Aurora Surfboard Vice. 2. 69 In a decent match, Dick The Devastator defeated Azumanonami in 20:27 by pinfall with a Total Devastation. 3. 83 In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Yoshifusa Maeda defeated Shadow Kabuto in 23:12 by pinfall with a Maeda Lariat. 4. 83 In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Yoshinaka Toshusai defeated Major Havok in 24:36 by pinfall with an Exploder Suplex. Dick the Devastator battered Azumanonami in a dominant debut. The Total Devastation (Curb Stomp) put an end to Azumanonami’s night and saw Dick advance to face Genei Konda in the next round. Yoshifusa Maeda managed some semblance of retribution against Shadow Kabuto after the World Tag Team title loss at Golden Spirit. He will face Kabuto’s team mate Sakamoto in the next round. GCG World Heavyweight Champion booked his place in the next round with a confident win over a faltering Major Havok. Panther Tanimoto VS Sadaharu Jimbo Sadaharu Jimbo wrestled his first match since his sensational return from a 10 month hiatus at Golden Spirit. His opponent was Panther Tanimoto who has been putting in solid performances, showing his bravery and intensity since his arrival in the company in the summer. Jimbo wasted no time getting into the action. The crowd loved seeing him pulling out his famous moves – the Stunning Heart Punch, the snapdragon suplex, and the spinning sitout powerbomb. However, Panther Tanimoto held his own. He took advantage of Jimbo’s rustiness and nearly won with the Panther Strike, but Jimbo rolled to the ropes and survived. Jimbo rallied with the support of the crowd and hit the Jimbo Enziguiri to win the match. He goes on to face GCG World Heavyweight Champion Yoshinaka Toshusai in the next round. In a bout that had fantastic heat and decent wrestling, Sadaharu Tanimoto: 59 66 28:35 Jimbo defeated Panther Tanimoto in 28:35 by pinfall with a Jimbo Jimbo: 66 Enzuigiri Kick.
