Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 5. Unknown Author said, “My children need to see Christ in my actions, not just hear about Him in my words”. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 6. Looking back at your notes from this week’s sermon, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you? DIGGING DEEPER 1. Why is Paul planning to send Timothy to Philippi? What is he waiting on before doing so? Why does Timothy have a heart for the Church at Philippi? What is the background and history? How is Timothy different than others? What sets him apart? Where were his interests and focus? • Do you have genuine concern for others? Outside of your immediate family, who do you truly care about? What are some ways that you demonstrate a concern and care for others? How did Christ set the example for you? Who are your interests focused on? 2. What kind of relationship did Paul and Timothy have? What does Paul say about Timothy? What is the background of Paul and Timothy’s relationship? Besides Paul, who was instrumental in Timothy’s life? What example did Lois and Eunice set? • Have you ever had a Paul (Mentor) in your life? If so, who was it and what did they do? If no, do you think it would be beneficial to develop a relationship that would look like this? Do you have a Timothy (Mentee) in your life? If so, what are you doing to disciple, instruct, teach, and encourage them? If no, who is someone that you can begin to pour into? Who is someone that you can begin to disciple? 3. What was the priority for Paul and Timothy? Why was this mission critical? How had they demonstrated in their actions the importance of the gospel? Why was Paul in prison? How do Paul & Timothy dedicate their life to the gospel? Explain. • Is the gospel a priority for you? What are you doing to advance the gospel? Explain. 4. What had happened to Epaphroditus on the way to Rome or while there? What example was Epaphroditus demonstrating? How did Paul want the Philippians to view him? How did Paul view him? Why does Paul use familial language? How is the church a family? Explain. • Do you view the church as family? Do your actions demonstrate this? Explain. How important is churchmanship to you? What are some ways that this has been lost? 5. Why does Paul use a military analogy and language when speaking of Epaphroditus? How relevant was this to the Philippians? What was it like to be a Roman soldier? What was the demographic of Philippi? What are the similarities between being a soldier and following Christ? In addition to fellow soldier, what other descriptions does Paul use? How was Epaphroditus fulfilling those positions or attributes? How was Epaphroditus imitating Christ? • How do you view your relationship with Christ? What illustrations or metaphors would you use? How are you imitating Christ? 6.
