Covid-19 Operational Plan If any child or staff member has one or more of the following viral symptoms, they MUST stay at home. Parents must check their child’s temperature before bringing them in to preschool. The symptoms are: A high temperature of 38.0 C or above A cough A loss of sense of smell or taste IMPORTANT: This plan relies heavily on the cooperation of parents and staff to create the safest environment possible for everyone. Parents should arrive on time and leave promptly, remaining physically distant from other parents and staff at all times (2m or more). Children should have a good sized backpack so they can easily carry all of their things in one go. Children should NOT bring in any toys or things to show from home. If parents need to discuss anything with staff, this should be done by email to FVFCpreschoolmanager@gmail.com and will be responded to when it is safe to take the time to do so. Drop-off: Parents will stay in their cars if driving, and physically distanced in the car park if walking. They MUST NOT come inside while waiting. If a child is late, the parent should ring the outside bell (labelled ‘preschool doorbell’) and the same procedure below applies. One member of staff will go out to the slope door at 9am and will invite the children to come through the slope door to wash their hands. Parents will say goodbye at the bottom of the slope and leave. Staff member will support the children with thorough handwashing after hanging up their bags. Pick-up: All children will wash hands prior to pick-up time (midday or 3pm) and be ready to go by the door. Parents will wait inside their cars if driving or physically distanced in the car park if walking. One member of staff will open the slope door and call the children out as their parents come to the bottom of the slope. Families must then get in car/buggy and leave immediately. Parents MUST NOT come inside while waiting. If a parent arrives early, they should ring the outside bell and wait until their child is brought to the top of the slope. Operational: Preschool will operate as normally as possible for the sake of the children’s wellbeing, which is our joint primary concern alongside virus prevention. We do not expect the children to be exercising physical distancing, nor should the staff be distant from the children. However, staff will remain distant from each other to reduce the risk of transmission. We need to ensure that we adhere to the following guidelines as closely as possible which will then enable the children to play safely together within a well-managed environment. We will ensure that staff are emotionally available for the children, including cuddles if needed. A thorough (unwritten) risk assessment will be carried out throughout each day of operation with regard to virus prevention alongside any other identified risks – this will be a dynamic assessment to be discussed by staff as potential issues come to light, and acted upon as soon as practically possible. Usual PPE will be used by staff for supporting children’s toileting, i.e. gloves and aprons if necessary. Masks are not required to be worn by staff. However, staff can wear masks if they will feel more comfortable doing so. We will have regular thorough handwashing times throughout each session – on arrival, when moving between indoors and the garden, before and after snack, after toileting and prior to collection. There are some lovely handwashing songs we could sing, or we may count to 20 if the children would prefer. Alcohol hand gel will be available for staff to use regularly throughout the day alongside thorough handwashing. We will try and utilise the garden as much as possible. Sand play will not be available for the time being. Large garden toys will be hosed down with water and detergent at the end of each week. Indoors, toys will be washed weekly by either being soaked in Milton in the sink or being sprayed with disinfectant (for items that can’t be soaked). Tactile activities (i.e. playdough), when provided, will be in individual portions and disposed of at the end of each session. Children will each have their own prepared snack from home – no shared snacks. We will have breadsticks spare for if a child does not have a prepared snack. Each child will need their own well- labelled water bottle and snack box. All table tops, surfaces and contact points (door handles, taps, preschool mobile phone etc) will be wiped with antibacterial wipes by staff throughout the day where necessary and thoroughly after each day. Toilets, bin emptying and cleaning of all rooms in the building will be carried out by the contracted Church cleaners outside of our operational hours. New children and settling in: Parents will be invited to visit the setting with their child when no other children or staff are present aside from the manager who will show them around. When parents are happy that their child has become familiar with the setting, they will drop them off for an initial settle session of 20 minutes, saying goodbye at the door. If the child becomes distressed during this time, parents will be called to collect them slightly earlier. Settle sessions will increase gradually until the child is ready to do a full session. If a child develops symptoms while at preschool: Parents will be called immediately and MUST get to preschool as quickly as they can to collect their child. The child will be taken to a separate room with one member of staff. When parents are in the car park, they MUST NOT come inside. The should ring the preschool doorbell and their child will be brought to the top of the slope by the member of staff who was looking after them. Said staff member will then thoroughly wash their hands before returning into the preschool hall. If a staff member develops symptoms while at preschool: The staff member MUST leave the premises as soon as possible. If this will leave the preschool short staffed, the staff member must isolate in another room with their belongings and mobile phone until another member of staff has been called and arrived on site. When they are clear to go, they will be phoned and should leave by the slope exit. Another member of staff will then wipe down the door handles. If another member of staff is unable to cover, as a last resort all parents will be contacted to collect their children as soon as possible and the staff member with symptoms will have to remain isolated on site until the children have been collected. The member of staff must then get tested as soon as possible by booking via the gov.uk website at https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/antigen/name o If the result is positive, the local public health team will be informed via telephone on 0344 225 3861 or email to PHE.sshpu@nhs.net. The public health team will advise further and preschool will have to follow any guidance given. o If the result is negative and the staff member returns to health, normal service can resume. In the event of a CONFIRMED case: For contact tracing purposes, a contact is someone who has been within 2m (with or without a mask), from 2 days prior to the positive test until 10 days afterwards. The flowchart (on the next page) will be followed for any confirmed case in staff or children. All contacts will be identified and notified to isolate for the appropriate amount of days. It is likely that any confirmed case will result in closure of the setting for a period of 10 days due to our size and the likelihood of all children and staff being contacts.
