● Born January 29, 1860 ● Russian playwright ● Third of six children ● His father’s business failed so he took his family to Moscow while chekov remained in Taganrog to finish school ● He joined his family in 1879 and enrolled in Medical school ● He supported his family through freelance writing ● During the 1890s, he wrote some of his major works including lady with a pet dog ● In 1901 he got married to Olga Knipper ● his health began to decline due to Tuberculosis in which he died from it on July 15, 1904
