IMPORTANT: Mask Requirement Notice 1 message GoodLife Fitness <email@goodlifefitnessemail.com> Tue, Oct 27, 2020 at 9:52 PM Reply-To: GoodLife Fitness <noreply@goodlifefitnessemail.com> If you're having trouble reading this message, click here As you may be aware, masking policies at GoodLife Clubs have been evolving since we reopened our Ontario Clubs in July after the temporary closure for COVID-19. We have been working closely with different Public Health units and healthcare experts to ensure that our in-Club policies meet or exceed all recommendations set out by local government and public health authorities. We want to do what we can to provide the safest Club environment possible and also ensure our Clubs remain open so that we can continue to be there for the health and long-term success of our Members and Associates. On October 16, we introduced a new colour-coded system which outlined our masking levels in different public health regions across the country. To see the mask level in your Club please visit our website. Effective Wednesday, October 28, in all Clubs with Orange and Red Masking Levels in Ontario, we will require all Members to wear a mask or face covering while in our facilities. Exemptions to our masking level for any reason will no longer be permitted. We are making this change to address the increased prevalence of the COVID-19 virus in the surrounding community, and to further support the efforts and recommendations made by our local Public Health partners. We want to work together to provide the safest environment possible for both our Members and Associates at all times. If you previously were exempt from wearing a mask, we apologize for any inconvenience or upset this may cause and we want to work with you to find a suitable solution. You will be provided with the following options at your next visit to the Club: You may continue to use the Club if you choose to wear a mask. It is recommended that you consider low-to-moderate intensity exercise while exercising with a mask on. Listen to your body and do not push yourself too far. If you are working with a Personal Trainer your Trainer will modify your work outs to allow for mask wearing as needed. If you are not able to wear a mask, an Associate at your Club would be happy to put your membership and/or your Personal Training on freeze until our Mask Level changes to either Level Green or Yellow, based on input and direction from the local Public Health Unit. While your Membership is on freeze, you will still be able to access the GoodLife App and Member Portal where there are over 130 on-demand workouts available. TIPS FOR WORKING OUT WITH A MASK ON While exercising with a mask on, consider decreasing your exertion level. It is normal to get winded more easily while working out with a mask on. Adjust your workout and don’t push yourself too far; take breaks when you need to. It is recommended that you perform low-to-moderate-intensity exercise rather than vigorous exercise. You may want to decrease the weight you use for resistance training, or reduce the distance or intensity of aerobic activities like running or biking. Try the talk test to separate moderate-intensity exercise from high-intensity exercise. As a rule of thumb, a person performing moderate-intensity aerobic activity can talk during the activity, while someone performing vigorous-intensity activity can’t say more than a few words without pausing for a breath. If you experience dizziness, drowsiness, headache, fatigue, shortness of breath or overall discomfort, stop and take a break until these symptoms subside. If these symptoms continue or worsen, stop the activity. ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS We encourage Members in regions with Orange and Red Mask Levels who cannot wear a mask to make use of GoodLife’s variety of complimentary at-home options. Options available to Members include 15 free live and on-demand workouts on Instagram Live each week, hundreds of on-demand workouts hosted on the GoodLife App and Member Portal, and constantly-updated exercise and nutrition content on the GoodLife blog and social media channels. If you opt for working out with a mask on, consider one of the following workouts with lower-to- moderate intensity: Full-body kettlebell flow – Kettlebell flows are composed of small and controlled transitional movements that help improve your sense of space and cognition. Arms, chest and back workout for beginners – All you need is a set of dumbbells to hit all three of these muscle groups at once. OR, try one of the following workouts at home: Full-body single station workout – Try this full-body single station workout and train at home without sacrificing intensity. Low impact HIIT – This workout can be done with no equipment and is designed to maximize your caloric burn without putting pressure on your joints. Thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter.
