HANGOUTS HORSE for tweens ND guest mentors (online) December - mammal behaviour January - animal communication January - wild horses February - celebration Our approach is neuro-affirming and trauma-informed: built on somatic (body-based) enquiry, equine assisted learning, ethology, yoga & interest-based learning. As we spend time interacting with and observing the herd, we will be able to understand and track different nervous system states - in the horses and ourselves! We will explore different pathways to move between states and build connections between our minds and our bodies (which helps us navigate our everyday!), The relationships we build with the horses, the games we play and the opportunities we’ll have to share our insights and preferences will help us feel more confident in our uniqueness. By having social connection built around our special interests and playing games, we’ll try and reduce some of the demands that come with unstructured play time! Here at the farm we are a bit sensitive to too many demands, loud noises, bright lights and sudden changes in temperature. We love knowing what’s happening next but also love when we are given choices and options that work for our brains and bodies. Because of this, we’ll have a visual planner for each day, offer lots of choices regarding participation, have dedicated, experienced ND mentors (one for every two participants) and a sensory chill out space as well.
