Rick Warren said, “You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that life will never make sense”. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 4. D.L. Moody said, “Some day you will read in the papers that D. L. Moody, of East Northfield, is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now”. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 5. Matt Chandler said, “If the gospel is true, your life should look like it’s true”. Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? 6. Looking back at your notes from this week’s sermon, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you? DIGGING DEEPER 1. What does Philippians 1:21 say? What does that mean? How is that to be applied to our lives? How do we know whether we are doing it or not? Do we ever flippantly say this, without considering the depths of what that means or entails? Explain. • Where are you personally at when it comes to this topic? Does your life center around Christ in your actions, thoughts, and daily decisions? Does death concern, worry, or scare you? Are you where Paul was? Explain 2. What are the benefits of living for Christ? How do these benefits motivate us to endure, press on, and operate from an eternal perspective? How did Paul view this? What did it allow him to do? What was the fruitful labor? How did he live this out? Who benefited from this? • What is the fruitful labor that God has called you to? Who benefits from you living? What impact do you have in their life/lives? Does it cause Christ to be glorified? 3. What are the benefits of dying? Why was Paul torn between living and dying? What was the tension? What was his preference? How did he reconcile the two? • Have you ever been where Paul was at? Have you ever had the same tension? Explain. How do you reconcile the two? 4. What does it mean to live a life worthy of the gospel? What does it entail? Can you do this in isolation? What role does the church play? How does it tether us to the church? How does the gospel bring unity? What should our proximity to other believers be? • How are you tethered to the church? Are you in close proximity to other believers? How do they support and share in your difficulties? 5. How was the Church at Philippi standing firm? How were they doing this? Who was empowering and keeping them to collective be of one mind and striving side by side? What were they enduring? How was Paul and the Church at Philippi enduring the same thing together, but in different geographical locations? • In your experience is it easier to endure in isolation or with others? Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to empower you to stand firm and be of one mind? GROWING CLOSER 1. Who is someone you shared the gospel with this week? 2.
