We started the Easter weekend off with a good result at Swindon, extending our unbeaten run and form away from home. We had control of the game in the first-half and played some good football, though we probably didn’t threaten the goal enough with the possession that we had. Ellis scored a really good goal and once we added another through Jerry in the second-half, I thought we saw the game out comfortably. I’d have just preferred us to have kept the ball a bit better. We’re now looking forward to this game today, with Gillingham arriving here on the back of some good results themselves. Our record is strong at Bloomfield Road and we need to make that count again. In the build-up to these Easter matches, we’ve benefitted from a couple of days rest and a bit more time on the training ground. The schedule has been relentless so a lot of our time between games has been about recovery and preparation. The extended period allowed us to work on a couple of things and highlight some things that we feel we can improve on. The focus is to maintain some of that consistency we’ve been showing over the last few weeks and continue to grow in the matches we have left. We were obviously dealt a blow recently with the news that CJ Hamilton and Matty Virtue will be out for the rest of the season. We wish both players the very best in their recoveries. Fortunately, we’re in a position where we are getting a few other players back now and that will certainly help for the run-in. UTMP! The past couple of months have seen us build a great run of form, where we are on an impressive unbeaten run of 12 matches after the Swindon game. We’ve become a side that’s difficult to beat, which is a good reputation to gain, particularly at this stage of the season. It was another excellent performance on Friday at Swindon. We dominated the play in the first half, but it was a bit closer in the second half after their change of shape. We stood up to the task, defended well and kept another clean sheet and picked up another three points in a game which had the potential to trip us up. I said from the start of the season, with all of the high-quality players that came in to the Club over the summer, that we could have a successful season. Even after our frustrating start, where I felt we were unfortunate to not pick up more points than we did, I was still confident this side could go on to be a success, given the ability we have within the team and the quality of the coaching we gain from the Head Coach and the rest of the coaching staff. We’ve proven over the past 12 matches what we are about as a team. Defensively, we’re becoming a side that’s difficult to score against and we are starting to score more goals and are becoming a real threat at the top end of the pitch. We’re not resting on our laurels and won’t let up. Yes, the past couple of months have been good in terms of results and the atmosphere within the squad is really positive at the moment, but there is still a long way to go. We need to focus on the next match, and that is against a strong and physical side in Gillingham today.
