Article By: Leo Tikuli Pitigala Official Newsletter | Leo District 306 A2 3 02 District President’s Message Endings and Beginnings! Every spark returns to darkness. Every sound returns to silent. Every flower returns to earth. See? Everything and everyone in this world has a beginning and an ending. So many count the days till December 31st and be overly joyed with the fact that the year is ending. Yet again, some may count days till Jan- uary 1st to begin and keep a new step. In all this waiting, what many forget is that, here we are simply ‘continuing’ what we already did with a new determination and a positive attitude. Endings and beginnings may not lie Within our controls. But what happens in between is what determines the success and the failure of our own acts. We Leos are completing the first half of our year and stepping to the second half of this 2016/2017 Leoistic year. As Leos of 306 A2, after a victoriously ending December and January months, we can reflect the success of our commitment and dedication to our district. Starting the month of December with 1st ever Leo ISAAME forum and then organizing and conducting Leo Carols from one week, we Leos headed to another challenging week in organizing the ‘Leo Centennial Recognitions’ from just 7 days after another event. In the new year of 2017, with the blessings received with the Pirith Ceremony in the first week, we marked a highly glamorous talent show ‘Talentalize’17’ where the Leo talents were showcased in many different ways to the public eye. Ending these two months, we are now beginning to face the coming months together as one team! What we Leos need to keep in mind is that more than the beginning or the ending, what matters most is how the spark lightened us, how the sound made the change, how the flower brought fragrance to this world. Don’t wait till the ending comes to you to have another beginning! Set a high positive attitude with a strong determination and then march forward and continue this journey where Leoism needs to own the nerve to serve to the one in need! Wishing you the courage to find the purpose to make every ending, another continuing step to success! This year, after evaluating the children’s homes in the area, Jagaddala Children’s Home- a home of destitute children from the ages of 5 to 18 was selected. Kids love Christmas as it is a time of the year family members share love and affection with each other, exchange gifts and treat themselves with good food. Leos of Piliyandala did not want the saplings at Jagaddala Children’s Home to pass the Christmas day as another cold day of the festive month. The Piliyandala Leos prepared for the project by wrapping gift hampers for the children. Each hamper included a lunch box, a clear bag, six exercise books, five pens, a ruler and an eraser which were very useful to them as all of them were school goers and they needed to prepare for the upcoming school term in coming January. Being the festive time, and as kids, the children preferred short-eats and sweets. The kids were delighted to see the bags of fish rolls, egg buns, patties, cheese, chocolate and Milo, which were brought for them. The Leos also received blessings from the chief prelate of the Kindelpitiya Temple, which administrated the children’s home. During the rest of the day, the Leos hanged out with the kids. At the end of the day, the children blessed the Leos with merits for their thoughtful kindness. Article By : Leo Dinya Godakanda 12 Official Newsletter | Leo District 306 A2 11 “Unduvap pathuma ” Leo Club of Mattegoda “Unduwap Pathuma” was a Christmas season special we did for a group little orphan- age kids who were between the age of 5 – 13 years. Christmas is a time where we can spread happiness and love and this time we wanted to make Christmas for these small kids a memorable, special and a vibrant one. The project took place on the 24th De- cember 2016 which was in the Christmas Eve. We visited them at Mauw Piya Sewana Lama Niwasaya at Hiripitiya, a homely place as most of them come here during their vacation from an orphanage at Kaduwela. We knocked on the gate. Someone screamed “athulata enna”. We opened the gate and stepped in with the food, gifts and surprises we planned to give. There were two small faces starring at us with a question on them ‘who are they??’. One ran in and said “teacher, teacher, kawuda awilla”. The other one took one of our hands and said “enna enna akkila aiyala, indaganna, api sellam karamuda?” As it was our aim to make them happy, we all joined with them and played cricket, sang songs, danced and carried them on our hands and shoulders which they loved the most. Later, we surprised them with a dressed Santa clause who gave them a lot of balloons to play with and gift packs containing stationary and toys. Quality time was spent while eating and having tea together with them in their big round table with lots of lovely small chit chats and laughter. We also handed over other stationary, dairy products, materials used for their hygiene as soap, tissues, hand wash, etc. to the in- charges. It was one of our prettiest, happiest and memorable days filled with lots of love and sweetness as it was for them too. So we are thankful, for all the Leos who came for “Candy Cane 2016”and for people who bought a sticker at “Weedee Mayam” that made it easy for us to pull off a magnificent day of love.
