It doesn’t matter whether new faces come up or not. Dream of every Leo is to serve the society at their best. With the dawn of the Leoistic year 2018/2019 all the Leo Clubs and Leo Districts are appointing new office bearers to continue the administration of the Leo Club of Leo District for the next Leoistic Year. So, to appoint and install the new office bearers of Leo District 306 A2 the 14th Annual Installation Ceremony was organized. The 14th Annual District Installation of Leo District 306 A2 was held on the 15th of July from 3.30PM onwards at the Auditorium of Sri Lanka Technological Campus, Meepe. This is the event where all the Leading figures of the District including the District President, Key executives, Council Officers and the Club Presidents officially get installed with the promise to carry out their duties and responsibilities to the best of their ability. The Chief Guest for the 14th Annual Installation Ceremony was District Governor Lion Udaya Jayasooriya MJF JP and the Guest of Honor was Multiple District President Leo Lion Kesari Senevirathne PMJF. Vice District Governors, Lion Leaders and Lion Ladies, Multiple Council officers were also among the distinguished guests who participated for the event. There were more than 100 participants representing Leo District Council, Leo Club Members, and other Leo Districts. With this, the new Council along with the District President Leo Lion Kasun Lokugamage and Club Presidents of Leo District 306 A2 started the journey with the motto “Learning to Lead” with the guidance and the support from the Past Leaders who have created examples of their success. 4 Leo Presidents’ Camp Leo Presidents’ camp; one of the year’s greatest events was held on every year was held on 18th and 19th of August 2018 at Atanwala Village,Matale.Council members and club presidents of district 306A2 participated in this two day camp where they were divided into six groups for group activities. Some activities were targeted in improving their leadership skills, team work and self confidence. Having engaged in these activities, leos took a refreshing bath in the river nearby. A camp fire was lit by the end of the 1st day. On the 2nd day leos experienced an adventurous hike and at the end of it each team was asked to prepare three different food items. It was a great experience and a pleasure for all the participants where everyone had enjoyed a lot. District President Leo Kasun Lokugamage,the camp chairperson Leo Mudith Jayasekara and the team were the pioneers Of this successful event. Club Officers’ Workshop “A2 Class Room ’18”, Club officer’s workshop is a main administration event and 5 Leo Clubs in Leo District 306A2 jointly organized this event. They were Leo Club of Katuwawala, Leo Club of Godigamuwa, Leo Club of Panadura Alubomulla, Leo Club of Kalubowila, Leo Club of Mattegoda. The main purpose of this event was to build up the strong administration body of the district and to spread the knowledge about club reporting and other admin stuff of the club as well as the district and also to create a Leo Leader that who filled with good administration and the leadership qualities. It was held on the 5th of August 2018 at the Camilla School situated in Mattegoda. It mainly focused on giving a training on the duties of the President Secretary and Treasurer of the club. The meeting which commenced at 9.30 am started off with an introduction speech given by and briefed all the participants on the work shop. Thereafter the Presidents Secretaries and Treasurers were separated and a training was given to the individual categories by the District Council members on how their duties should be carried out and the guidelines for their reporting each month. Refreshments were provided at break while the session was carried out and it went on for about an hour. At the end of the individual sessions, all the participants were gathered to one hall, the gathering was addressed by the Special guest Lion Kanneel Maddummage. The bold words of his definitely touched the hearts of all the Leos gathered at the occasion and inspired us to work harder and achieve more in life and serve with true Leoism at heart. With the supervision of the club president Leo Kusal Warnajeewa, the club members and the Leo adviser of the Saegis campus Mr. Thomas Benjamin all participated in this grateful deed. The Leo members of the club eagerly collected books by informing the campus students and also collected funds to provide with stationery needed for their education. This book donation took place on the 3rd of September and the Leo club members themselves joined with the students for entertainment activities which the pupils of Makura primary school certainly enjoyed. The principal and the teachers of the school admired this great deed and also informed about a need of a cupboard to the school library along with sanitary facilities needed for the students. This is the first project of the new leoistic year 2018/2019 of SLTC Leo’s. There are lots of talented students in SLTC and this event helped to them to come forward and illustrate their talents. This event was great opportunity to enhance inter relationship between other Leo clubs as well as among the students of SLTC. Moreover, by completing this project, our team of Leos gained a memorable experience. They learned how to work as a team worked, socialized, felt motivated to finish what we start appreciated each other. 14 Club Projects Leo Club of University of Moratuwa 16th Installation Ceremony Coming together is beginning, staying together is process, and working together is success. Another successful year which gave much hope, happiness, education and as well as a helping hand to the society, ended in the midst of lots of appreciations. Then, it was the time for the past leaders, to pass the baton to the future pillars, for the betaken Leostic year 2018/19. After a triumphant but an exceptional year, the 16th Installation Ceremony of Leo Club of University of Moratuwa was held on 29th of July 2018, appointing new club officers whom now will have a colossal task ahead, to do their very best for the club and significantly for the society. Current President of the Leo District 306A2, Leo Kasun Lokugamage was there as the Chief Guest of the ceremony while being a great strength to us as always. Further, the head table was decorated with many distinguished guests of Leo Multiple District 306 whom always were there behind our success story. Many Leos and lions representing both the district and the multiple were there among the participants of the ceremony while most of our past Leos enormously supported us being the backbone of every single task we carried on. On that day, Leo Kasun Ramanayake officially assumed duties as the Club President for the Leostic year 2018/19 while Leo Isuri Manawadu designated as the Club Secretary, Leo Praminda Vindika consented as the Club Treasurer and all the other pertinent officers swore in their respective posts. At the end of the day, another Installation Ceremony which remarked an Imperial Legend of Eminence was witnessed by everyone and concluded as the benchmark of the upcoming year for the UOM Leos. 15 Club Projects Leo Club of University of Moratuwa LEAP LEAP is not just a simple word with the surface meaning you see, but has a deep meaning such that it perfectly stands for what the project actually does. There, L stands for LEARN, E for ENGAGE, A for APPLY and finally P for PERFORM. Since, UoM LEOs are a set of personalities responsible for the future of the nation, it is our duty to give a hand to improve the leadership skills of country’s younger generation. That is why, we kept steps to organize this program, and the main objective behind this was to train the students to face challenges and take right decisions fit in to various situations. Not only that, but also sharpening the moral to come forward was another purpose of this program. The Project was held on 11th and 12th of August at Badulla Pallekiruwa Vidyalaya for two days, including several sub programs targeting the students. There, the program was mainly focused on improving self-awareness, positive mindset, communication skills, social skills, leadership skills, courage, creativity, time management skills and public speaking skills through the various awareness sessions, leadership development activities, camp fire and some other fun activities held throughout the entire program. By adding a set of fabulous memories to UoM Leos’ Diary, the Project LEAP was successfully held with the participation of the school’s students and teachers together with our LEOs and prospects and concluded leaving another perfect milestone. 16 When Life is Uncertain Our Imagination Can Make the Unknown the Great Adventure of Our Lives Supposing you go for your yearly physical and the doctor says: “if you don’t exercise on a regular basis, your chances of having coronary problems are high.” You would probably head straight to the gym” (at least for a week or two). What if someone, (maybe even yourself) told you: “if you don’t exercise your creativity and imagination, your spirit will get sick.” Would you start working those ‘muscles’ on a regular basis? Most of us would put it on the backburner for ‘when we have more time.’ Which never happens. Just think about racing through life without ever registering the beauty of flowers in bloom or the sharp smells of autumn? What if you couldn’t taste food anymore or even imagine the taste of food? What if you never fantasized what it would be like to have a completely different life? For many of us, the life described above would be dull, frustrating, and accompanied by the sense that something vital was missing. When we exercise what I like to call: ‘the magic what if ’ of our imagination, all our senses come alive. We feel focused, optimistic and motivated. We feel that we have the resources to make things happen. That belief can set us on the beginning of wonderful lifetime journey that is the essence of the creative life. To make our spirits thrive, we have to throw out the received notion that creativity is for the chosen few. We must establish the belief and the practice that we all have the ability and the right to be creative. For many of us it is not only a right, but a necessity of survival. We don’t have to leave the creative experience to innovative scientists, famous writers, dazzling movie stars. Each one of us is capable of gems of imagination and creative activity. These attributes are part of our evolutionary success: being creative means we can meet the challenge of the unknown and unexpected. This gives us a better chance to survive in an uncertain world. 17 Our creative manifestations don’t have to be grandiose; they can be simple and playful and still fulfill our ravenous appetite for curiosity and exploration. I bring up the issues of simplicity and play because we often undervalue things that are easy and fun for us to do. Our usual logic is: Only hard things are valuable. If it is easy and fun then it isn’t worth anything. Not true at all sometimes things being easy for us just means that we have a natural connection, a gift for it that most people do not. Doing creative work that comes naturally to you is an efficient means of getting your imagination up and running. It helps us gain confidence in our creativity and feeds our desire to engage it more seriously because we are working in a territory that ‘sings’ to us. If gardening excites you, garden. If you are a lover of words, write. If it is singing, then by all means, sing your heart out. When you are comfortable with the medium and the materials, you will put up with the heartache and frustration inherent in the process of any creative act. You will also be preparing yourself to do inspiring work that pushes you out of your comfort zone into the wild blue horizons of undiscovered imaginative possibilities lurking inside you. If creative work is work at all, then it is playful work. Play is one of the most powerful tools for us humans to learn to think differently. It is one of the most valuable resources we have for making any new discoveries, in fields as diverse as psychology, technology, and art. Our creativity brings us a message from within that insists we tend to our vision.
