THE HURRICANE AND LYNN No one really knew where it got its start, Some say it came from Africa's hearts, They also say it was born from spirits of anguish and woe, With seeds of hatred and sorrow to sow, Where it came from or what it was made of was not the problem but that it was filled with anger, And all that fell within its reach was sure to me with danger, For it was a storm with exceeding high winds and torrential rains, And all that witnessed it knew it was a hurricane, One so powerful that no man alive had ever heard of or seen greater, This was truly a storm known as a mankind Hater, And from the way it look, It would be one for the history book, Well it left the coast of africa, And made a beeline to its first stop which was Jamaica, It traveled a well known sea way, And destroyed any ship that got in its way, The route that it took was one slavers used, When it was legal to make money off their fellow mans abuse, Although slavers don't use that route anymore, For drugs and other things that enslave mankind it is still an open door, Well let us not now talk about mankinds self inflicted misery, And get back to the rest of story, The storm came across Jamaica like it was a devil, Leaving hardly anything standing above ground level, Instead of weakening while own land, It seemed to gain strength from the destruction of man, As it hit the open water again, It had gained the strength of hundreds of men and women and children, The tears of the survivors was the only thing it left behind in Jamaica, Fear grew in the hearts of those waiting for it in America, Except for the teenage girl who was on the beach all alone, About her not much was known, All except she had no next of kin, And her first name was Lynn, She lived on the streets of New Orleans, On donations and what she could from the trash cans glean, Although this girl was only 13 years old, For her stature she was quite bowl, She had learn life the hard way, For most of her life that's where she had wanted to stay, She did not want any family life, For what she had once before had been full of strife, Within her you could find no fear, For she had lived with it for many a year, It had become a friend to her, So it was hard to scare her, As the storm approach the mainland, She was setting on the beach in the sand, As the storm got closer Lynn continue to sit and in to it to stare, It was as if she was aware, That this storm had a spirit, And of it she did not fear it, As the storm got closer she did not run away, As those who swore that no matter what they would stay, The storm made its way ashore, Once it touched lynns face it moved inland no more, As the eye of the storm held its position offshore the spirit of the storm came inland to see, Why this young lady like the others did not flee, She must know it could toss her around like a toy, As Lynn was looking at the storm the spirit appeared before her as a little boy, As he was looking at her sitting there, In her eyes he could see no fear, Never had this been known to happen before, That he had failed to scare any person to the very core, How was this girl made, That of him she was not afraid, Did she not know he could take her breath, And cause her a violent death, With awe in his voice he asked her why are you still here, When the others have run away with fear, With a voice of wisdom she answered him the only thing I am afraid of, Is god who rules from heaven above, Of that you yourself should know, This life we live out here is just for show, Used by god to determine where after death are to go, If you live your life without fear and doing good when you can, You'll find yourself in heaven, If you cause man to sorrow or to fear, When you leave this place in a hell you will shed a many tear, My mother told me this before daddy sent her to heaven, As far as my daddy is concerned that is one place he won't get in, So when my family was gone I was put in a orphanage to learn life's lessons alone, Well it was not long before I realized it was better to call the streets my home, Where I could do what I wanted to do, And not what someone else wanted me to do, I have learned to love my home, And through its streets I love to roam, There are many people that live within the city, That has made it a point to take care of me, I have become part of this city, And if you destroy you would destroy me, So if I will suffice, Like Jesus take me as a willing sacrifice, And leave the city alone, If you do I will wander around with you till god calls me home, As we do I will teach you, What you need to know so that he will call you too, Well the spirit of the storm agreed to her plan, And it took her by the hand, And led her into the storms eye, The storm left the shore and traveled back out to see where it eventually did die, As for New Orleans savior Lynn, Her and the spirit made it to heaven, Where they live with her mother in a mansion built by the heavenly father,
