FINT is a self sustaining Financial Technology company I founded and built from scratch. I stepped down to pursue other motivations trusting that I had built an engineering core efficient enough to ensure the company runs itself sustainably. FINT’s goal is to bridge the credit gap in Africa while providing a strong foundation for wealth generation and we reached Y Combinator’s interview stage in San Francisco twice. I learned that the most important part of ensuring the longevity of the company is top-down communication across ALL Levels of the enterprise; across all departments. Currently, I am based out of Orlando, Florida working with a great team to build the world’s most powerful 3D Metaverse as a Service platform (MaaS), Xureal. I am leading the direction of the entire backend architecture; my goal is to ensure that all of Xureal’s data and data structures are designed and built for easy and efficient scalability. I don’t feel like I work from day to day because my daily routine typically entails finding the balance between engineering and design. I love to find problems that users might face, deliberate solutions and provide said solutions. NodeJS is currently my language of choice for backend engineering, Python takes second place. I use Flutter and React in the front end and a Mongo-MySQL balance for data. I have ample experience with PHP and Java as well, as I started off my career mostly using those. Leveraging Unity, AR and VR, we built the Xureal platform; a platform intended to give anyone the ability to launch, customise, manage and share their own 3D environment / destination within the Xureal Metaverse; a Metaverse As A Service (MaaS). We have achieved the design through the implementation of several micro services with API endpoints. These endpoints were written entirely in NodeJS, feeding player data to Mongo DB and less mutable data to the calmer MySQL DB. All micro services built have security protocols like JWTs and Auth Tokens embedded in their core architecture I have also overseen the implementation of the Xureal Gameserver which is the backbone of Xureal’s Multiplayer capabilities. It consists of a mobile application built entirely with Flutter . It is written in Dart and talks to a server side written entirely in NodeJS The Zikora ecosystem stores its data in a MySQL database. While starting with the Zikora team, I made it a point to instil the idea that we are NOT a Microfinance Bank but a Digital Financial Institution. This meant the establishment of a digital presence with the look and functionality of a trustworthy entity. We began operations in Anambra, Nigeria with plans to spread outward from there. The problem with this is that access to credit sparks entrepreneurial intentions, which gives rise to businesses, jobs and ultimately, an improved standard of living. We launched FINT as a peer to peer lending platform in 2016 with the goal of bridging the gap between the demand and supply of credit. We designed and built a web application which assesses users’ credit-worthiness using our Inhouse risk algorithm, connects to credit bureaus for historical data and assigns a risk score to each user that joins the FINT platform. If acceptable to our algorithm, our user gains access to the plethora of credit options provided by our trusted lenders. The platform’s backend was built entirely in Laravel with a ReactJS front end providing the link to our users. The platform is supported by a MySQL DB FINT taught me a lot of important lessons with regards to building an engineering team from scratch and how said engineering team interacts with the rest of the company as a whole. Although It was a sharp learning curve for me, it instilled a work ethnic and planted the seed that spurred my increased adaptability It required my taking a fully functional iOS app’s codebase in Objective-C + Xcode, familiarising myself with it, stripping away the UI elements and re-implementing updated, modern UI elements in Swift. The project pulls 3D building models from a GCloud repo and utilises a MySQL database. Working with Building Conversation gave me a glimpse of what was to come in the years after in the fields of Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Immersive 3D; and we are just getting started! I have used it for years to keep track of all micro services built and all capabilities. JIRA has been used for years to create tickets to assign to engineers. It is a great tool to track progress on tasks for not just engineers, but artists too. JIRA is a Project Manager’s dream. Over time, I have come to prefer the Agile S C R U M e n g i n e e r i n g m e t h o d o l o g y f o r development due to its iterative and collaborative style. At Elevux, I am leading the server side and data architecture of the Xureal platform. Xureal being the base technology on which all other projects stand, I am leading the design of the entire Elevux backend architecture. Applying my experience from FINT, I defined the technology direction of Zikora; both in design and in engineering. I still consult occasionally to help steer the ship. As a co-founder, I was charged with co-leading the cultural and visual direction of FINT. As the CTO however, my goal was to lead the technology and product in the right direction.
